Role Description

IKS Health is seeking to hire a Part Time Profee Ophthalmology Medical Coder!

• Responsible for providing coding and abstracting services for clients on physician medical records using ICD 10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding systems.
• Use established coding principles, software, and knowledge to assign diagnostic and procedural codes after a thorough review of the medical record.
• Participate in industry forums and support coding education within the team.
• Review medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures relative to the patient's health care encounter.
• Select the principal diagnosis and principal procedure, along with other diagnoses and procedures using UHDDS definition.
• Ensure appropriate DRG assignment.
• Abstract appropriate information from the medical record based on the guidelines provided by the client.
• Consistently meet productivity and quality performance requirements.
• Utilize applications to enter charts coded in real-time throughout the scheduled shift.
• Solicit clarification from the physician regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation in the medical record.
• Participate in team meetings and all training required by IKS staff or client.
• Flexibility in assignment over multiple clients to ensure meeting required classification hours.
• Participate in Coding Roundtables through presentation of materials, articles, and current issues related to coding and Health Information Management.
• Maintain current knowledge of the information contained in the Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
• Participate in education modules as assigned.
• Keep coding credentials up to date and active.
• Maintain effective and professional communication skills.
• Contribute to a positive company image by exhibiting professionalism, adaptability, and mutual respect.

Qualifications

• CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA certification required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Minimum of 3 years of related coding experience.
• Ability to code Clinic E&M and CPTs.
• Experience coding Profee, Ophthalmology charts.
• Epic with 3M, 360 experience required.
• Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding principles and guidelines.
• Knowledge of reimbursement systems, federal, state, and payor-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing.
• Must pass a coding proficiency test.

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
• High level of coding accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills – must be detailed and articulate.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
