Role Description

This role is ideal for a psychiatrist seeking a flexible leadership opportunity without the demands of a traditional full-time medical director position. You will have the opportunity to mentor psychiatric providers, strengthen clinical systems, and help ensure that patients throughout New Hampshire receive safe, thoughtful, and high-quality psychiatric care.

The Medical Director will work closely with the Practice Owner and leadership team to support the quality, safety, and compliance of the agency’s psychiatric services. This is a flexible, primarily remote position designed for a psychiatrist who enjoys mentoring providers, supporting clinical decision-making, and helping shape high-quality behavioral healthcare services.

• Provide consultation and clinical guidance to psychiatric nurse practitioners.
• Facilitate one hour of remote group supervision or clinical consultation each week.
• Remain reasonably available by telephone, secure email, or text for time-sensitive provider questions.
• Support nurse practitioners with complex cases, diagnostic questions, medication management concerns, and treatment planning.
• Provide guidance regarding high-risk prescribing, controlled medications, polypharmacy, adverse reactions, and treatment-resistant conditions.
• Work closely with the Practice Owner and leadership team regarding clinical compliance, quality standards, risk management, and medical policies.
• Review and provide recommendations regarding psychiatric protocols, workflows, documentation standards, and prescribing practices.
• Support quality-assurance and performance-improvement initiatives.
• Assist with the clinical interviewing, onboarding, and evaluation of psychiatric providers as requested.
• Provide clinical input regarding provider performance concerns, remediation, or disciplinary processes when appropriate.
• Help identify when patients require specialty consultation, emergency evaluation, hospitalization, or a higher level of care.
• Promote ethical, evidence-based, patient-centered, and collaborative psychiatric care.

Qualifications

• Medical degree from an accredited medical school.
• Active and unrestricted MD or DO license in New Hampshire (active license in Massachusetts and Maine highly preferred in addition to NH).
• Board certification in psychiatry.
• Current DEA registration and all required prescribing credentials.
• Professional liability coverage appropriate for the services provided.
• Experience working with psychiatric nurse practitioners or interdisciplinary behavioral health teams.
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric medication management, clinical compliance, documentation, and risk management.
• Excellent communication, consultation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to provide supportive guidance while respecting each provider’s professional scope and clinical judgment.
• Prior experience as a medical director, supervising physician, clinical leader, or psychiatric consultant is preferred.

Schedule and Availability

• Approximately one scheduled hour of virtual group supervision each week.
• Occasional meetings with the Practice Owner or leadership team.
• Reasonable remote availability for nurse-practitioner consultation between meetings.
• Flexible scheduling based on mutual availability.

Compensation and Benefits

• Monthly contract compensation of $1,000–$2,500, depending on qualifications, availability, and the final scope of responsibilities.
