• Reviews, analyzes, and codes documentation for hospital inpatient medical records.
• Selects and sequences the appropriate ICD-9-CM diagnosis, ICD-9-CM procedure codes, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS as applicable to the transition to ICD-10.
• Primary coding responsibility is Inpatient Coding.

Qualifications

• Education
• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) - Required
• Coding Certificate program (AHIMA accredited) - Preferred
• Work Experience
• 1 year of hospital coding experience - Required
• Experience in coding at a multi-hospital organization and remote coding experience - Preferred
• Licenses and Certifications
• One or more of the following certifications upon hire:
• RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator - Required
• RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician - Required
• CCS - Certified Coding Specialist - Required
• CCA - Certified Coding Associate - Required
• CCS-P - Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based - Required
• CPC - Certified Professional Coder - Required
• CPC-A - Certified Professional Coder – Apprentice - Required
• CPC-H - Certified Professional Coder - Hospital Outpatient/Facility - Required
• Coding Certificate program (AHIMA accredited) - Preferred
