[Hiring] Hospital Inpatient Coder III @Emory Healthcare

Role Description

The Hospital Inpatient Coder III uses clinical coding knowledge based on the Official Coding Conventions guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic, to assign ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 codes to the highest level of accuracy for each inpatient encounter. Works closely with:

• Physicians
• Clinical documentation improvement specialists
• Quality and patient finance staff

Plays a key role in:

• Billing
• Research
• Internal and external reporting
• Regulatory compliance

Ensures accuracy of DRGs and appropriate extraction of core data into HIM abstracting system to data warehouse repository. Facilitates accurate data for patient acuity, severity of illness, and quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 5 years inpatient and outpatient coding experience in an acute care environment
• Must complete coding proficiency evaluation
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of MS-DRGs, disease process, clinical pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology

Requirements

• Physical requirements include lifting 36-75 lbs occasionally, 20-35 lbs frequently, and 10-20 lbs constantly
• Lifting 75 lbs max
• Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs
• Occasional to frequent standing & walking
• Occasional sitting
• Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing)
