[Hiring] HIM Coder II @Amberwell Health

Role Description

The HIM Coder II is a key member of the HIM team, working under the direction of the Manager of Coding. This position will:

• Review documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Assign and sequence ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes.
• Ensure compliance with the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by AHIMA.
• Focus on coding all inpatients, observation, and surgical accounts.
• Utilize Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) methodologies, including present on admission indicators.
• Analyze medical record documentation for complications and comorbidities.
• Perform physician queries and clarify documentation.
• Complete charge verification and apply appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes for outpatient claims.
• Proficiently understand and work edits and denials through the claim’s scrubber queues.

Qualifications

• Minimum Required Experience: One year of inpatient and surgery coding experience.
• Preferred Experience: Two years of progressive inpatient facility coding experience, one year of orthopedic surgery coding experience.
• Minimum Required Education: High school diploma and graduate of a Medical Coding Program.
• Preferred Education: Graduate of a Health Information Technology program.
• Minimum Required Certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC).
• Preferred Certification: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
