Role Description
The Facility Inpatient Auditor plays a vital role in helping healthcare organizations maintain coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. By identifying coding and documentation improvement opportunities, this position supports revenue integrity, enhances audit quality, and helps clients achieve long-term financial success.
What Youβll Do

Conduct retrospective and/or prospective facility inpatient coding audits to evaluate:

Coding accuracy

Documentation support

Regulatory compliance

Reimbursement accuracy

Adherence to official coding guidelines and client requirements

Complete the following functions in accordance with CodingAID policies:

Abstract all ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, Modifiers, POA, MS-DRG, APR-DRG and APC assignment from the medical record documentation.

Enter data into audit software and/or audit detail report.

Evaluate the overall quality of physician documentation to provide feedback to the client for education opportunities.

Perform internal coder quality reviews.
-
Provide recommendations to incorporate into the Executive Summary.

Meet the minimum productivity standards.
-
Meet or exceed 95% accuracy rate on quality reviews.
-
Ensure accurate and timely submission of completed report to clients.
-
Enter time accurately and timely into our timekeeping system.

Review coded records to validate principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures, POA indicators, discharge disposition, DRG/APR-DRG, APC, CPT/HCPCS and modifier assignment.

Identify coding errors, documentation deficiencies, compliance concerns and share with leadership.

Apply official coding guidelines and regulations and payor requirements to work efforts.

Clearly document audit rationale and provide coding references to support findings.

Communicate audit findings and/or patterns and recommendations timely to leadership, coders and clients.

Comply with policies regarding the use and disclosure of protected health information.

Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and standards related to health information and coding principles.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Current AHIMA coding credential appropriate to the assigned audit specialty required; CCS, RHIT, or RHIA accepted for this position.

Minimum 5 years of recent facility coding experience.

Minimum 2 years of coding auditing, quality review, compliance auditing or coding education experience.

Requires advanced technical knowledge in specific surgical and medical specialties as assigned.

Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and ability to research coding related questions.

Experience with data entry of codes into a database and/or software tool.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Compensation
-
Salary Range: $40 - $48 per hour.
-
Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, specialized skills, geographic location, and internal equity considerations.
