Role Description

Wigan Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in schools is designed to help meet the mental health needs of children and young people in education settings. The Education Mental Health Practitioner role supports school staff to feel confident in recognising and responding to emerging mental health difficulties.

• Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems.
• Supporting the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce or develop their whole school/college approach.
• Giving timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education.
• Providing 1:1 brief intervention for mild to moderate mental health problems, developing support plans for children and young people on a regular basis.
• Providing low level intervention including:
  • Behavioural activation
  • CBT informed worry and anxiety management interventions
  • Graded exposure
  • Sleep and stress management
  • Behavioural experiments

Qualifications

• Existing Education Mental Health Practitioner Qualification.

Requirements

• All positions within the Trust are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks.

• Pay Enhancements:
  • Band 1: Time plus 47% for Saturday (midnight to midnight) and any weekday after 8pm and before 6am.
  • Band 2: Time plus 41% for all time on Sundays and Public Holidays (midnight to midnight).
