[Hiring] Consultant for Zoonotic Diseases @Pan American Health Organization

Role Description

This is a requisition for employment at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The objective of the Health Emergencies Department (PHE) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is to increase health sector resilience to emergencies and disasters. PHE assists Member States to strengthen the health sector’s capacities in:

• Prevention
• Risk reduction
• Preparedness
• Surveillance
• Response
• Early recovery for emergencies and disasters related to any hazards

PHE is responsible for ensuring the implementation and updating of the PAHO/WHO Institutional Emergency and Disaster Response Policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized technical input on zoonotic diseases and threats at the human-animal-environment interface.
• Contribute technical expertise to intersectoral preparedness and response planning under a One Health approach.
• Support or participate in expert working groups and technical consultations on intersectoral surveillance and other priority technical areas.
• Contribute to the design, review, adaptation, or technical validation of guidance and operational tools.
• Provide technical inputs for regional or national capacity mapping exercises.
• Contribute to intersectoral risk assessment processes.
• Support the preparation and implementation of simulation exercises and other preparedness activities.
• Contribute to regional and country meetings through agenda development and technical presentations.
• Provide specialized technical inputs to the preparation of analytical reports and recommendations.
• Contribute to technical coordination with relevant authorities and partners.
• Support the identification, documentation, and exchange of good practices.
• Provide remote or in-country technical support for preparedness, assessment, consultation, or response activities.
• Contribute to other technically related activities as agreed with PHE.

Qualifications

• Essential: A bachelor's degree in a health-related field from a recognized university.
• Desirable: A master's degree or PhD in relevant disciplines.

Requirements

• Essential: At least 7 years of professional experience in One Health, zoonotic diseases, or related fields.
• Demonstrated professional experience in technical areas relevant to zoonotic disease preparedness and response.
• Desirable: Experience contributing to the development of technical guidance or operational tools.
• Experience with zoonotic influenza or other emerging zoonoses will be considered an asset.
• Essential: Excellent written and spoken English and/or Spanish.
• Working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese will be an asset.

Benefits

• Daily Pay Rate: Depending on deliverables, rates can vary from USD 258.00 to USD 314.00.
• Duration: TBD, according to specific assignment and roster requirements.
