[Hiring] Coding Quality and Education Specialist @Sentara Health

Role Description

This position is Part time- day shift and Fully remote position.

• Responsible for coordinating staff development in collaboration with HIM Leadership to assure optimal, ethical reimbursement for Sentara's patients.
• Ensures coding practices fall within established compliance guidelines.
• Performs internal coding assessments and random/pre-bill quality assurance reviews.
• Provides coder and physician education, and coding as needed.
• Serves as a liaison with external auditors for corporate audits, as needed.
• Provides orientation to systems and software required for coding.
• Develops internal coding assessment plan(s), including coder assessments and follow-up.
• Identifies new problem areas, trends, education opportunities, and advises Coding Leadership.
• Serves as a coding resource for team members by providing feedback to coding questions.
• Utilizes both ICD-10 and CPT coding methodologies in internal education activities.
• Exhibits competence in APCs and/or MS-DRGs.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or CCS is required for outpatient auditors.
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification accepted.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years experience coding complex inpatient and/or outpatient cases in an acute care setting.
• ED charging experience is strongly preferred.
