Role Description

High quality health care is both a calling and a business. And the business side dictates preparing letters, providing information to payors, and evaluating coding issues. Bottom line: this job is important for back-end operations.

• Abstract data from multiple resources to be used for medical billing and statistical purposes.
• Collaborate with regional clinical leadership to respond to changes in clinical practice.
• Identify and monitor opportunities for performance improvement of services.
• Inform clinical staff of documentation deficiencies and provide coaching to avoid future deficiencies.
• Review medical record documentation in order to appropriately assign diagnoses and procedure codes.
• Identify and resolve coding/billing issues developing them into process improvement project, as appropriate.
• Provide billing/coding education to departments, as necessary.
• Serve as a coding resource for CBO, HIM, and departments, to ensure we are compliant in our coding and billing functions.

Qualifications

• Required Associate's Degree in Health Information Management
• Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management
• 5 years Coding (Preferred)
• 3 years Coding (Required)
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (Preferred)
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (Required)
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
