Role Description
The role involves navigating various electronic health record (EHR) and computer applications to support patient care, care management initiatives, revenue cycle, Health Maintenance, and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include:

Receiving, sorting, preparing, and scanning internal and external clinical documentation into the EHR according to Health Information Management (HIM) procedures.

Analyzing non-interfaced patient laboratory reports for compliance with regulations including Health Maintenance, College of American Pathologist (CAP) Accreditation, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

Utilizing optical character recognition software to enter appropriate data into the EHR.

Identifying, creating, or releasing appropriate laboratory tests using knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory nomenclature.

Discretely abstracting and importing laboratory results and clinical documentation into the EHR, ensuring accurate entry of laboratory values.

Locating or creating appropriate patient, encounter, and/or order documentation, ensuring proper classification and security of PHI information according to HIPAA.

Adapting to new laboratory tests, parameters, and regulations, validating data points, and troubleshooting issues.

Performing quality assurance of scanned documentation to ensure accuracy and clarity.

Completing timely error correction or notification processes, ensuring secure retention and destruction of PHI.

Communicating with patient care and external laboratories to provide education and laboratory data entry services.
Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Typically requires 1-2 years of experience in Health Information Management, Medical Laboratory department, or related healthcare setting.
Requirements

Proficient computer and keyboarding skills with the ability to learn new software systems such as Epic, Extract LabDE, Solarity, OnBase, Microsoft 365, and legacy archives.

High attention to detail and accuracy with frequent interruptions.

Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
