Role Description

We are seeking a Clinical Coding Manager (Medical Coding Manager) to join our team in the UK in a remote capacity. As a Clinical Coding Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, consistency, and accuracy of medical coding activities that support clinical development and patient safety. You will lead and coordinate coding activities across clinical studies, serve as a subject matter expert for medical coding processes, and collaborate with stakeholders across Clinical Development, Pharmacovigilance, Data Management, and other functional areas.

This position is instrumental in supporting high-quality clinical data through oversight of coding dictionaries, coding reviews, medical coding standards, and cross-functional collaboration. You will also contribute to process improvements, regulatory support activities, and the development and implementation of coding procedures that enable efficient and compliant study execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the medical coding subject matter expert, driving quality, consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement across coding activities
• Plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee clinical medical coding activities in alignment with company procedures, industry regulations, and applicable guidelines
• Lead coding and dictionary-related initiatives that support clinical development and regulatory activities
• Manage medical coding dictionaries and synonym lists, including dictionary maintenance and version updates
• Review coded clinical data to ensure consistency, accuracy, quality, and compliance with established coding guidelines
• Prepare and provide coding reports for medical review and decision-making activities
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support timely and accurate medical coding across clinical programs
• Deliver training on medical coding processes, standards, and best practices to coding staff and other functional groups as needed
• Monitor compliance with standard operating procedures and proactively identify and address process gaps
• Maintain and control organizational access to coding dictionary portals and related systems

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills combined with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Deep attention to detail and the ability to interpret and consistently apply medical coding guidelines
• Experience working within clinical research and regulated environments
• The ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and deliver high-quality outcomes
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
• Experience working with medical coding dictionaries, coding processes, and clinical data standards

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Biology, or a related field
• 7 years of experience in a clinical coding role
• Expert knowledge of clinical data coding methodologies and medical coding practices
• Expert understanding of clinical research, clinical trial execution, and applicable regulatory requirements and guidelines, including ICH-GCP and safety reporting requirements
• Expert knowledge of industry-standard coding dictionaries, including MedDRA and WHODrug
• Strong communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting coding activities across multiple therapeutic areas
• Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives and coding standards implementation
• Familiarity with coding dictionary maintenance, synonym management, and dictionary versioning activities
• Experience supporting cross-functional clinical development or pharmacovigilance activities
