Role Description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for certified medical coders with strong expertise in CPT, ICD-10, clinical documentation review, and US healthcare coding standards. This high-volume project focuses on accurately coding medical records and clinical documentation while maintaining strong quality, compliance, and productivity standards. Selected professionals will assign appropriate codes, review documentation for completeness, identify discrepancies, and collaborate with quality teams to support consistent coding outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Medical Record Coding
  • Assign accurate CPT and ICD-10 codes to medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Apply appropriate coding conventions across varied healthcare encounters.
  • Review clinical information carefully before determining final code assignments.
  • Maintain accuracy across high-volume coding workflows.
• Documentation & Compliance Review
  • Assess medical documentation for completeness, clarity, and coding support.
  • Ensure coding aligns with payer requirements, regulatory guidance, and professional standards.
  • Identify missing, conflicting, or insufficient documentation.
  • Flag cases requiring clarification or further review.
• Quality Assurance
  • Review coded records for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Work with internal quality teams to resolve coding discrepancies.
  • Incorporate quality feedback into future assignments.
  • Maintain established productivity and accuracy expectations.
• Risk Adjustment & Clinical Validation
  • Apply HCC and risk-adjustment coding principles where relevant.
  • Evaluate whether documentation satisfies MEAT requirements.
  • Assess diagnosis support across monitoring, evaluation, assessment, and treatment documentation.
  • Identify unsupported or incomplete risk-adjustment coding.

Qualifications

• Active CPC, CRC, or equivalent professional medical coding certification.
• Current experience practising as a medical coder.
• Strong hands-on expertise in CPT coding.
• Substantial experience with ICD-10 coding.
• Familiarity with US healthcare documentation and coding requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail and coding accuracy.
• Ability to work independently within a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
• Consistent performance across repetitive, high-volume workflows.

Requirements

• Active CPC or CRC certification through AAPC or an equivalent recognised organisation is required.
• Additional certification in outpatient, physician, risk-adjustment, or specialty coding may strengthen an application.
• Formal education in health information management, medical coding, healthcare administration, or a related field may be helpful.
• Equivalent professional training and substantial coding experience may also be considered.

Contract Details

• Independent contractor role.

• Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on operational needs and performance.
• Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
