Role Description

In cancer data management, this includes professionals who review pathology reports, radiation oncology data imports, and other sources to identify new cancer cases, as well as abstract, collect, and analyze treatment and follow-up information.

This is a remote position (OR/WA only). All new hires are required to come to a designated Legacy Health office location in Portland, Oregon prior to their start date for a new hire health assessment and to complete new hire paperwork.

• Collect, interpret, and report cancer data to evaluate and improve cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survival outcomes.
• Apply continually advancing, evidence-based treatment guidelines to collect, abstract, analyze and report cancer data as required by the States of Oregon and Washington law, and as defined by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) and Legacy Cancer Institute.
• Perform complex and highly specialized data abstraction, requiring a comprehensive understanding of:
  • Cancer case reportability (tumor sites and histology)
  • Patient work up/evaluations (history and physical, scans, laboratory tests, genetics testing, molecular markers, pathology reports)
  • First course of treatment (applicable surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative treatment)
  • Yearly patient follow up for current cancer and vital status
• Maintain specialized knowledge within the rapidly advancing field of oncology treatment and the data reporting guidelines and rules to meet complex industry standards.
• Keep current knowledge base through ongoing education, self-directed studies/research, and using tools and resources from:
  • Data standard setters
  • CoC
  • SEER
  • NAACCR
  • NCCN Treatment Guidelines
  • College of American Pathology
  • AJCC Cancer Staging
  • States of Oregon and Washington
• Maintain a current knowledge base of various information systems and a complex cancer registry database.
• Contribute to problem solving and team education within a rapidly changing working environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in hospital or central Cancer Registry preferred.
• Experience within ACS approved Cancer Programs preferred.
• Experience with a cancer registry database required.
• General computer skills, knowledge of diagnosis, cancer work up, cancer treatment, and Cancer Data coding systems, i.e. ICD-0, ICD-10 CM coding.
• Familiarity with Standards for Oncology Registry Entry Manual (STORE), American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC), Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER).
• Knowledge of Primary Site-Specific Data Items (SSDI), ACoS Commission on Cancer Program (COC) Standards.
• Understanding of North American Association of Central Registries (NAACCR) standards, and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) standards.
• Knowledge of National Comprehensive Cancer Clinical Practice Evidence-based Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines, College of American Pathology (CAPS) protocols).
• Strong organization and communication skills.

Requirements

• Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) required.

Pay Range

USD $29.89 - USD $42.74 /Hr.
