Are you someone with an interest in ADHD or an existing NMP looking for a bit of a change? Come and work with the Suffolk Adult ADHD team as a non-medical prescriber with a focus on assessment and treatment of adults with ADHD. Our primary goal is to be able to walk alongside people during their ADHD journey to provide a kind, safe and effective level of support along the way. We are looking for a registered mental health nurse with an existing non-medical prescribing qualification, as reviewing and prescribing of medication is a key element to the role.

We will not be able to consider people without a prescribing qualification. Prior experience of working within an ADHD service is preferable; however, we would consider transferable skills such as:

• Working with people with ADHD in alternate settings
• Experience of community working

We will consider applicants with RN or RNLD qualifications dependent on skills and experience working in mental health settings.

Qualifications

• Registered mental health nurse
• Existing non-medical prescribing qualification
• Experience working within an ADHD service (preferable)
• Transferable skills from alternate settings or community working (considered)

Requirements

• Complete review appointments with patients starting or needing a review of ADHD medication
• Initial prescribing for new medication(s) and dose adjustments during the titration period
• Complete ADHD assessments/diagnostic reviews after training
• Daily 'duty' work as part of the team
• Ability to travel to various NSFT base-sites across Suffolk
• Positive approach to change and willingness to be involved in service development

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

• Provide advice and support to other clinicians acting as a source of expertise
• Prescribe for the patient’s mental health needs and manage drug-related complications
• Accurately assess the needs of the client group
• Promote health needs of clients with complex issues
• Comply with Trust and statutory policies and clinical guidance
• Collaborate with medical personnel regarding prescribing protocols
• Work as an independent non-medical prescriber
• Responsible for prescribing a range of drugs within competence
• Carry out appropriate risk assessments regarding prescribing
• Write prescriptions in accordance with Trust policy
• Ensure appropriate records are made in patient’s case notes
• Notify GP when a patient is seen as an out-patient
• Ensure non-medical prescribing is recorded on the Trust’s patient administration system
• Communicate fully with patients unable to give consent
• Assist with the development of policies for non-medical prescribing
• Lead on policy and procedural development in designated areas
• Undertake auditing and monitoring of prescribing
• Ensure security and safe handling of FP10 prescription forms
• Accountable for ensuring GP/Consultant is advised of adverse drug reactions
• Participate in patient satisfaction survey design
• Act as a mentor and guide for supplementary non-medical prescribers
• Request necessary clinical investigations and communicate results
• Provide appropriate health and social care interventions
