Role Description
This position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC), a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.
We're looking for an Strategic Communications Associate with a unique combination of skills and expertise who can hit the ground running on the Global Plastics Treaty.
You’ll be joining our Oil & Gas team, which leads multiple campaigns targeting the oil and gas industry, including petrochemicals and plastics, and provides strategic advice to the rest of the network and partners.
As part of the Oil & Gas team, the successful candidate will add strategic communications capacity in the lead up to and during the next round of negotiations (INC-5.2) on the Global Plastics Treaty in Geneva, Switzerland in August 2025. The candidate will assist in implementing a campaign aimed at curbing industry influence at the talks, driving key narratives in the media and supporting a broad network of partners.
The ideal candidate is a highly organised and driven individual, with a good technical understanding of petrochemicals and plastics, combined with experience in campaigning and communication.
This is a temporary position until mid September 2025, with an immediate start date.

Qualifications
- Proven experience of either journalistic, communications or campaigning experience
- A sound understanding of the oil and gas, petrochemicals or plastics industry
- Experience in or understanding of global diplomacy and geopolitics
- Proven skills to produce engaging and impactful written materials
- A quick and curious learner who asks critical questions
- A strategic thinker with proven ability to develop and implement robust communications plans
- Excellent networking and interpersonal skills
- Existing relationships with key energy, finance, or climate correspondents highly desirable (alternatively the proven ability to develop these swiftly)
- An independent self-starter able to work on their own and as part of a remote team
- Fluency in written and spoken English, our working language; additional languages are an asset
- The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers
- The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across time zones using tools such as Zoom, Slack and Google Workspace
- A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to addressing climate change
- Strong preference for someone with French and/or German language proficiency
Requirements
- Actively embody and uphold the values of the GSCC
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a communications strategy designed to counter the influence of the oil and gas, and chemical industries in the lead up to and during negotiations on the Global Plastics Treaty
- Monitoring traditional and social media for petrochemical industry advertising and lobbying, and developing strategies to counter them
- Monitor the media landscape for opportunities to amplify key allies, and counter the talking points of corporations and nation states opposed to an ambitious treaty
- Develop and maintain relationships with key reporters across multiple geographies, and pitching stories to them when relevant
- Contribute to team outputs such as regular media monitoring for partners and diplomacy emails
- Monitor the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, and assist the team in responding to developments in negotiations in real-time
- Develop and maintain relationships with partners working on the Global Plastics Treaty, including in-person meetings during the talks in Switzerland
- Supporting digital teams to execute campaigns targeting key audiences
- Engage with the broader network by providing thematic intelligence and updates on the progress of media pitches, digital campaigns and outcomes in negotiations
