Role Description
Deep Blue Recruitment is working with an international technology company looking to appoint an experienced Senior Privacy Counsel to join its legal team. This is a broad, hands-on role combining privacy advisory work, commercial support and the continued development of internal data protection processes.
-
Advise colleagues across the business on a broad range of privacy and data protection matters, providing clear, commercially focused legal guidance.
-
Work closely with product, technology and commercial teams on the development of new services, ensuring privacy considerations are addressed early in the process.
-
Support the negotiation of commercial agreements, particularly around data processing, international transfers, customer relationships and third-party arrangements.
-
Advise on GDPR and other applicable international data protection regulations, helping the business understand and manage its obligations across different markets.
-
Provide legal guidance on emerging technologies, including AI, and the implications of new products and data processing activities from a privacy perspective.
-
Review and improve existing privacy policies, internal procedures and governance frameworks to ensure they remain practical and fit for purpose.
-
Work alongside information security and IT teams on data governance, risk assessments and privacy-related incidents.
-
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of privacy operations, including through automation and better internal processes.
-
Monitor regulatory developments affecting technology businesses, particularly around data protection, AI and digital services.
-
Provide training and guidance to colleagues across the organisation, helping non-legal teams understand their responsibilities when handling personal data.
Qualifications
-
A qualified lawyer with approximately 4-8 years experience specialising in data protection, privacy or technology law, gained in private practice, in-house or a combination of both.
-
Strong knowledge of GDPR and European data protection law, including regulatory guidance and its practical application within commercial organisations.
-
Experience advising technology businesses, ideally with exposure to software, AI, digital products or other data-intensive environments.
-
A good understanding of artificial intelligence technologies and the legal and regulatory challenges associated with their development and use.
-
Experience advising on commercial agreements involving personal data, international transfers and complex data processing arrangements.
-
Comfortable working directly with product, engineering and technical stakeholders, with the ability to understand complex issues and provide clear, practical legal advice.
-
A commercial approach to risk management, recognising that the role of legal is to help the business find workable solutions rather than simply identify problems.
-
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities independently.
-
Experience working within an international business or advising on privacy matters across multiple jurisdictions would be beneficial.
Benefits
-
This is an opportunity to join an international technology business where privacy plays an important role in how the company operates, develops its products and works with customers.
-
You'll have a broad remit, working closely with different teams across the organisation on a range of commercial, operational and regulatory matters, including some of the challenges emerging technologies bring to data protection.
-
If you're a privacy lawyer who enjoys working closely with the business, has an interest in technology and takes a practical approach to solving legal challenges, we'd be interested in hearing from you.
