Role Description
Genesys is seeking an experienced and versatile Privacy Counsel to support key privacy compliance, commercial transactions, and product counseling activities focused primarily on our United States business operations. This role will advise on evolving US privacy laws, customer-facing privacy commitments, and responsible data governance practices within a global cloud computing and AI First environment. You will work closely with several cross-functional teams (including Product Development, Engineering, Commercial and Compliance teams) to provide practical and timely guidance that supports innovation, while at the same time, maintaining a strong compliance culture.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Privacy and Customer Contracting
-
Draft, review, and negotiate Data Processing Agreements, privacy addenda, and customer-facing privacy terms within cloud and SaaS agreements (including ad-hoc AI terms)

Advise commercial teams on privacy obligations relating to customer contracts, procurement engagements, and strategic partnership transactions

Support customer privacy reviews, due diligence requests, RFIs, and RFP responses

Provide practical guidance regarding cross-border data transfers and vendor privacy obligations

Develop and maintain contracting templates, negotiation guidance, and privacy playbooks

US Privacy Compliance and Product Counseling

Advise on US privacy laws and regulations, including state privacy frameworks, including the CCPA/CPRA and other emerging state privacy requirements

Support implementation of privacy compliance processes, including privacy impact assessments, data mapping, retention practices, and consumer rights handling

Partner with Product and Engineering teams to support Privacy by Design and responsible data governance practices

Contribute to AI governance initiatives and advise on emerging AI-related legal and regulatory requirements

Assist with privacy and security incident assessments and support internal investigations and remediation activities in partnership with internal stakeholders

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Translate legal and regulatory concepts into practical, business-friendly guidance

Support training and awareness initiatives related to privacy, AI governance, and data protection obligations

Collaborate with Security, Compliance, Product, Business Transformation, Engineering, Procurement, and Commercial stakeholders to align on risk management and compliance priorities

Contribute to a culture that embraces empathy, collaboration, and innovation with privacy awareness
Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree and active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction

Approximately 3 to 6 years of relevant privacy, technology, or commercial legal experience

Experience drafting and negotiating privacy and technology agreements in cloud or SaaS environments

Working knowledge of United States privacy laws and practical privacy compliance operations

Familiarity with GDPR concepts and global privacy notions in multinational business environments

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across legal and business teams

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications

IAPP certification such as CIPP/US, CIPM, or CIPT would be a plus

Experience supporting AI governance or AI-related product counseling

Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, data flows, and cybersecurity concepts

Experience working in enterprise SaaS or global technology companies

Knowledge of healthcare, financial services, or other regulated industries (FedRAMP is a plus)

Compensation
This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidateβs experience, qualifications, skills, and location. This role might also be eligible for a commission or performance-based bonus opportunities.
