[Hiring] Principal Counsel, Regulatory & Privacy @Eight Sleep

Role Description

The Role:

• Be the second lawyer on the legal team, reporting to the first in-house legal counsel.
• Focus on privacy and regulatory matters, including:
  • Privacy program, FTC and consumer protection, advertising and subscription compliance.
  • Product and market-entry questions, healthcare-regulatory work.
• Take on various legal tasks beyond privacy and regulatory, such as:
  • Commercial contracts.
  • Litigation questions.
  • Product counseling calls.
• Create programs and processes for the growing legal function.
• Be a self-starter and comfortable making independent decisions.

Qualifications

• JD and active bar membership in at least one US state.
• 8 to 12 years of relevant experience, including meaningful time in-house.
• Solid working knowledge of US privacy (CCPA/CPRA), GDPR, and FTC and consumer protection.
• A versatile generalist with experience across multiple areas in-house.
• A self-starter who works hard and advises the business directly.
• Comfortable in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements

• In-house experience at a consumer technology, healthtech, wearable, or DTC subscription company.
• Experience as a first or early regulatory or privacy hire.
• Biometric or health data experience, and cross-border transfer or data localization experience.
• Advertising, health-claims, or healthcare-regulatory experience (HIPAA, corporate practice of medicine, the FDA/FTC intersection).
• Familiarity with AI governance and emerging AI regulation.
• CIPP/US or CIPP/E is a plus, not a requirement.
