Role Description
PACS is seeking a Litigation Paralegal with two (2) to five (5) years of law firm experience defending skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFEs) in elder abuse and professional negligence litigation. You will support the PLGL Legal team by working with and supporting Litigation Managers with case management, primarily in discovery.
-
Coordinate responses to discovery requests, including responsibility for communicating with personnel and collecting and producing responsive documentation.
-
Identify, collect, and produce facility records specific to elder abuse and professional negligence claims β including care plans, MDS/RAI documentation, incident and witness statements, staffing and time records, and policies and procedures.
-
Generate regularly scheduled client reports, status updates, and ad hoc reporting as required by project parameters or upon request.
-
Assist in drafting responses to discovery.
-
Own and oversee discovery activity including scheduling, maintaining status updates, document collection and organization, prompt communication with external counsel, and partner on issues and deadlines to Litigation Manager as appropriate.
-
Attend meetings with external counsel and facility staff as necessary to complete objectives.
-
Other paralegal and administrative projects as outlined by your supervisor.
Qualifications
-
2-5 years of experience in litigation defense with a required focus on elder abuse and professional negligence litigation against skilled nursing facilities and RCFEs (this is a required qualification, not a preference).

Medical malpractice defense experience is a plus.

Experience in discovery-heavy litigation essential.
Requirements
-
Paralegal certificate desirable.
-
Working knowledge of California's Elder Abuse and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act (Welf. & Inst. Code Β§ 15600 et seq.) and Code Civ. Proc. Β§ 1430(b) required.
