Role Description

The Hanover is seeking an Attorney licensed and residing in Texas, to join a legal team committed to excellence, collaboration, and professional integrity. As a member of our Texas Staff Counsel group, this attorney will be primarily responsible for handling the defense of claims made against companies in:

• Professional liability disputes
• D&O matters
• Real Estate/title issues and litigation
• HOA litigation
• General liability matters

This attorney will also be responsible for:

• Responding to demand letters, state and federal agency charges, subpoenas, and lawsuits filed against Hanover’s insureds.
• Investigation and management of assigned cases from the inception of the lawsuit until conclusion through dismissal, settlement, or trial.
• Working with adjusters and insureds to resolve claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible.

Hanover offers flexible work arrangements, and this role can be performed remotely, in-office, or hybrid.

In this role you will:

• Handle a caseload which includes defending Hanover’s insureds in connection with pre-litigation and litigated disputes in the areas of general liability, real estate/title issues, HOA, D&O, and miscellaneous professional liability.
• Independently conduct depositions, pre-trial discovery, mediations, arbitrations, trials, or any other legal activity required to resolve cases.
• Communicate frequently with claim professionals and clients concerning the status of and evaluations of legal files.
• Provide legal advice to insureds and claim professionals concerning the matter.
• Negotiate settlements as directed.
• Attend round tables.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts in Texas.
• 10+ years’ experience in civil litigation, with defense experience preferred.
• Trial experience desired.
• Strong knowledge of current procedural and substantive law, as well as federal, state, and administrative agency rules.
• Ability to analyze issues, pro-actively develop effective strategies on pending cases, communicate regularly with claims professionals, document communications, and resolve cases efficiently and effectively.
• Solid experience in preparing responsive pleadings, handling appearances, motion practice, and valuation of claims, settlement, and trials.
• Willingness to work independently with minimal direction, handle matters efficiently, and travel as necessary for court hearings, depositions, site inspections, client meetings, and other in-person events.

Requirements

• While flexible work arrangements are available, this position requires travel and personal appearance (as required) in order to attend hearings, conferences, mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and/or trial.
