Role Description
The Legal Technology Engineer is responsible for designing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining technology solutions that improve the efficiency, scalability, and effectiveness of the Legal & Compliance function.
Reporting to the Head of Legal Operations and working closely with the full Legal & Compliance and Legal Operations teams, this role serves as the department's primary technical builder, developing AI-powered solutions, workflow automations, integrations, applications, and reporting capabilities that enable modern legal service delivery.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with an understanding of legal processes and a passion for leveraging emerging technologies to solve business problems. This individual thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys rapidly translating ideas into practical solutions that deliver measurable business value.
Job Responsibilities

AI Agent Development & Optimization
-
Design, build, test, and deploy AI agents and AI-powered workflows supporting Legal & Compliance operations.

Configure prompts, workflows, retrieval logic, knowledge sources, escalation rules, and validation checkpoints.

Develop human-in-the-loop workflows to ensure accuracy and appropriate legal oversight.

Monitor agent performance and continuously improve agent quality, reliability, and adoption.

Build proofs-of-concept and rapidly prototype new AI capabilities for legal use cases.

Configure and maintain retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions and intelligent search capabilities.

Support implementation of AI solutions across contracting, compliance, legal intake, legal research, matter management, and knowledge management workflows.

Workflow Automation & Application Development

Develop and maintain automated workflows that streamline legal and compliance processes.

Build intake solutions, approval workflows, routing mechanisms, notification systems, document-generation processes, and self-service legal tools.

Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Establish reusable automation components and development standards.

Quickly iterate and enhance solutions based on stakeholder feedback and usage metrics.

Legal Technology Platform Development

Configure, administer, and enhance legal technology platforms.

Develop workflows and functionality within matter management, contract lifecycle management, document management, and e-signature systems.

Create custom solutions that improve user experience and reduce manual effort.

Participate in system upgrades, testing, releases, and platform enhancements.

Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.

Systems Integration & Data Engineering

Optimize and integrate the Legal Technology ecosystem, including matter management, contract lifecycle management, e-billing, IP management, document repositories, and productivity platforms.

Build and maintain integrations across legal, compliance, finance, procurement, CRM, and enterprise systems.
-
Develop API-based connections and data flows between applications.

Establish a modern legal data and knowledge infrastructure to improve accessibility, searchability, and decision-making.
-
Support data migration, transformation, validation, and synchronization efforts.
-
Design and maintain structured data models that enable automation, reporting, and AI capabilities.

Technical Enablement & User Support

Provide technical support and troubleshooting for legal technology users.
-
Develop user documentation, technical documentation, and training materials.
-
Assist with implementation and launch of new technologies and automation solutions.

Gather user feedback and translate enhancement requests into future development initiatives.

Analytics & Reporting
-
Design dashboards and operational reporting solutions.
-
Develop metrics that track process efficiency, technology adoption, workflow performance, and automation impact.

Create visualizations and reporting tools that support data-driven decision making.

Analyze usage patterns and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
-
3-7 years of experience in software development, systems engineering, automation, legal technology, business applications, or a related technical discipline.

Experience designing and building workflow automations and business applications.
-
Experience working with APIs, integrations, data models, and SaaS platforms.

Demonstrated ability to convert business requirements into technical solutions.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
Preferred
-
Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Power Automate, Azure AI, Azure OpenAI, or similar technologies.

Experience building AI agents, chatbots, prompt-driven workflows, or generative AI applications.

Experience with legal technology platforms, including matter management, CLM, e-signature, legal intake, and knowledge management solutions.

Experience with Python, SQL, JavaScript or TypeScript, REST APIs, data integration platforms.

Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector search, knowledge management, or LLM-based applications.

Understanding of legal operations, contract lifecycle management, or in-house legal workflows.
