[Hiring] Legal Counsel @Nearmap

Role Description

We’re looking for a dynamic Legal Counsel to support our growing U.S. business, partnering closely with Commercial (AECO) and Government Sales teams to help drive revenue while thoughtfully managing legal risk. In this role, you’ll sit at the center of our go-to-market efforts—advising on deal strategy, negotiating and drafting SaaS and data licensing agreements, and guiding teams through complex contract structures, including those involving machine learning and government entities. You’ll play a key role in enabling the business to move quickly and confidently, translating legal considerations into clear, practical guidance that supports our broader company objectives.

Beyond day-to-day deal support, you’ll contribute to building scalable legal processes and strengthening compliance across the organization. This includes:

• Developing training for internal teams
• Refining contract playbooks and toolkits
• Staying ahead of evolving legal and regulatory requirements—particularly across government and multi-jurisdictional agreements

You’ll also collaborate with a global legal team, gaining exposure to international projects and working closely with our headquarters in Sydney.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited university with a strong academic record
• Qualified to practice law in the U.S. and admitted to at least one bar in good standing
• 3+ years post JD experience negotiating B2B engagements, preference given to experience selling to or procuring on behalf of government entities

Requirements

• Experience navigating government contracts at the local, state, and federal levels, including responding to RFPs
• A good understanding of cross jurisdictional issues that may arise when negotiating global agreements with multinational companies
• Experience drafting and negotiating a broad variety of corporate transactional documents and commercial contracts including SaaS subscription agreements (vendor side)
• Knowledge of intellectual property issues as they apply to a SaaS provider
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Conga and X-Author, and JIRA (preferred)
