Role Description
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking an energetic individual to fill its Legal Advocacy Staff Attorney position. In this position, the attorney will work with the ADAโs advocacy team and volunteers to advance the rights of people with diabetes and to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities in the workplace, at schools and day care, and in all aspects of society. This position may include litigation and non-litigation efforts.
Responsibilities

Analyzing and supporting opportunities for the ADA to engage in impact litigation work and amicus briefs in cases of broad importance to people with diabetes.

Working in collaboration with other legal advocacy staff to review ADA legal advocacy intakes to analyze trends, assist with responses, and assess intakes for potential impact litigation/advocacy opportunities.

Coordinating ADA legal advocacy volunteers and staff to update ADA advocacy statements covering topics relevant to diabetes-related advocacy.

Analyzing and completing updates on state law and policy as necessary to further the ADAโs legal advocacy goals.

Working in collaboration with other legal advocacy staff to review and update ADAโs online legal advocacy materials and resources covering schools, childcare, employment, places of public accommodation, and detention settings including reviewing legislation, drafting comments to agencies, letters, fact sheets, and other materials.

Analyzing and supporting opportunities for the ADAโs legal advocacy division to broaden its areas of service.

Identify and build strategic partnerships that allow ADA to deepen its advocacy engagement and accelerate its pace to bend the curve on diabetes.
Qualifications

A JD from an accredited law school.

A minimum of four yearsโ experience working in disability and/or civil rights law.

A strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.

Excellent writing skills.

Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

Excellent analytical, legal research, writing, and public speaking skills, with the ability to speak and write to a variety of audiences and the ability to work collaboratively.
