Role Description

Human Interest is seeking an experienced Employment & Compliance Counsel to join its Legal team. This pivotal role supports Human Interest’s mission to make retirement savings accessible and affordable for employees of small and medium-sized businesses nationwide.

• Serve as the primary legal advisor to the People Team on all aspects of employment law, including:
• Hiring
• Performance management
• Terminations
• Sensitive employee matters
• Provide proactive counsel on employment law compliance, particularly for non-exempt employee populations.
• Support internal investigations, policy development, and employment documentation.
• Provide broad legal support across the business, including:
• Regulatory investigations
• Privacy and information security matters
• Litigation support
• Contract review
• Translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance for business stakeholders in a fast-paced, regulated fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years of legal experience, including significant employment law counseling.
• At least one prior in-house legal role.
• Law firm background and experience in high-growth technology companies are strong assets.
• Demonstrated fluency with AI tools and a commitment to leveraging technology for legal work.
