[Hiring] Data Protection Officer @zoykpay

Role Description

ZoykPay is seeking a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to take full ownership of data privacy and protection within our Botswana operations. This role is a regulatory requirement and will be critical in ensuring that all data processing and cross-border data transfers are conducted in strict compliance with Botswana’s data protection laws and Central Bank guidelines. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in implementing practical data protection frameworks within regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for all data protection and privacy matters
• Ensure full compliance with Botswana data protection laws and Central Bank requirements
• Oversee data lifecycle management including collection, processing, storage, and transfer
• Monitor and manage cross-border data transfers in line with applicable regulations
• Develop, implement, and maintain data protection policies, procedures, and controls
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) where required
• Provide ongoing guidance and training to internal teams on data privacy best practices
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and support audits or compliance reviews
• Manage data subject requests and oversee incident response, including data breaches

Qualifications

• Must be a resident of Botswana
• Proven hands-on experience in data protection, privacy, or compliance
• Strong understanding of Botswana data protection regulations and frameworks
• Experience managing data transfers and regulatory compliance processes
• Ability to operate independently and build structures in a startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certification in data protection or privacy (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, GDPR or equivalent)
• Experience within fintech, banking, or other regulated industries
