Role Description

The WA State Attorney Generalโ€™s Office is currently seeking applicants for consideration of a position as an Assistant Attorney General in the Regional Services Division in Kennewick. This position will primarily focus on representation of education clients and the Department of Labor and Industries.

If you answered โ€œyesโ€ to any of those questions, we are excited to offer an opportunity to join our supportive and collaborative team in the Kennewick Section of the Regional Services Division where you will serve a critical role as an Assistant Attorney General primarily representing the Department of Labor and Industries, Educational Service District #123, Columbia Basin College and/or Walla Walla Community College.

While this would be your primary assignment, RSD provides the unique opportunity to expand your experience with additional opportunities to work with a wide variety of clients including other state agencies and educational institutions.

Qualifications

  • The ability to quickly adapt to a practice that involves assignment of many cases at a time, and the ability to shift from one type of work to another during a given week or day.
  • An interest in civil litigation including engaging in discovery, drafting motions and briefs, negotiating with other parties and presenting oral arguments before various courts and tribunals.
  • Ability to travel to the assigned counties and throughout the state.
  • Ability to use electronic files and case management tools.
  • The ability to contribute positively to a team and interact successfully with interested groups and members of the public.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask by managing an active caseload and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Values working in an inclusive, creative and collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Washington State. (Applicants who meet the other stated qualifications and are actively pursuing admission will also be considered.)
  • The AGO seeks applicants who are committed to public service as demonstrated by an applicant's background, talents, attitude, and enthusiasm for public law practice.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, which may be negotiable within the given salary range ($88,932 and $153,996).
  • Salaries are set in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA schedule.
  • Longevity pay of 5% premium on top of base wages after 5 years with the Attorney Generalโ€™s Office.
