[Hiring] Virtualization Administrator @Pragmatike

Role Description

Pragmatike is hiring a Virtualization Administrator to provide dedicated operational support for a customer’s enterprise virtualization infrastructure, as part of a long-term project. You will help ensure the stability, security, availability, and continuous improvement of the platform.

Under the supervision of the IT Infrastructure Team Lead, you will:

• Administer, monitor, maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot VMware vSphere and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments.
• Work closely with the storage, backup, network, security, operating-system, application, and service-management teams.
• Support alternative platforms such as Nutanix, Microsoft Hyper-V, and OLVM/KVM as required.
• Resolve incidents and requests, implement approved changes, maintain platform health, security, capacity, and lifecycle compliance, and automate routine tasks.
• Work independently on assigned operational tasks while following established procedures and change-management controls.
• Escalate complex, architectural, or high-risk matters to senior engineers or the Team Lead.

What You’ll Do

• Install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments.
• Support Nutanix, Hyper-V, and OLVM/KVM environments as required.
• Perform VMware lifecycle patching, host updates, and approved configuration changes.
• Implement virtualization solutions that meet the customer’s operational needs.
• Apply security best practices and maintain compliance with applicable standards.
• Monitor the health and performance of virtual machines and hosts.
• Tune environments and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Troubleshoot virtualization issues and resolve incidents and problems while minimizing service disruption.
• Maintain scripts and tools that streamline administration, provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring.
• Keep current with virtualization technologies and assess improvements, including through proof-of-concept deployments.
• Work with IT teams, stakeholders, and vendors to plan and deliver virtualization projects under the Team Lead’s guidance.
• Provide timely updates on project progress, issues, and resolutions.
• Guide junior colleagues in established practices.
• Maintain infrastructure and process documentation, and report regularly on platform health, performance, and capacity.
• Provide on-call/standby support on a rotation basis.
• Provide ad hoc support within or beyond the team, including special projects or temporary service-delivery assignments, as requested.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting and operating enterprise-grade virtualization infrastructure in production environments.
• Proven hands-on experience installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting VMware vSphere and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).
• Experience with VMware VCF, including VCF Operations and VCF Automation core components.
• Exposure to alternative virtualization platforms such as Microsoft Hyper-V and KVM.
• Strong scripting and automation skills using tools such as Python, PowerShell, Terraform, or Ansible.
• Hands-on experience applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with Terraform to provision and manage virtual infrastructure, particularly VMware vSphere resources.
• Proficiency with command-line tools for managing virtualized systems.
• Sound understanding of storage, networking, backup, server hardware, and operating-system dependencies.
• Methodical troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve incidents with minimal service disruption.
• Ability to follow established procedures and change-management controls.
• Secondary school education or equivalent, supplemented by specialized IT training.
• Professional proficiency in English, both verbal and written.

Nice to Have

• Experience with public cloud platforms and storage management in virtualized environments.
• Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with configuration-management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Knowledge of Continuous Data Protection (CDP) solutions.
• Knowledge of Spanish.
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP-VCF Administrator, VCAP-VCF, or similar).
• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate, or a relevant Red Hat Ansible Automation certification.
• ITIL, ISO 20000, or PRINCE2 Foundation certifications.

Working Conditions

• Teleworking: up to 5 days per week.
• On-call: one week per month (rotation depends on the number of team members).
• Overtime must be pre-approved by the client Team Leader.
• Overtime rates: 125% of the daily rate Monday to Saturday, and 150% on Sundays and client public holidays.
• Stand-by availability for on-call services is included in the daily rate.
• Interventions during an on-call period are billed at the overtime rates above.
• Overtime and on-call interventions may alternatively be compensated with time off, if mutually agreed by both parties.
