Role Description

The Sr. Oracle DBA & System Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, administration and ongoing optimization of Oracle E-Business Suite R12 databases running on Oracle Exadata hardware. As a Sr. Oracle DBA & System Administrator, you will ensure availability, performance, backup/recovery and secure operations of the EBS database and related infrastructure; provide technical leadership; lead and develop automation efforts for database provisioning, patching, monitoring and deployment; and transfer knowledge to the broader team. This role requires 10+ years of hands-on experience supporting Oracle E-Business Suite R12 and Exadata environments.

  • Administer and support Oracle E-Business Suite R12 databases and related components on Oracle Exadata hardware.
  • Install, configure, patch and upgrade Oracle databases, Grid Infrastructure, ASM and related components necessary for EBS R12.
  • Implement and maintain end-to-end monitoring using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM): configure alerts, metrics, reports and dashboards for database and application availability, performance and capacity.
  • Design, document and operate robust backup and restore procedures (RMAN, Data Guard where applicable), and validate recovery procedures with regular restore tests.
  • Create, document and execute cloning procedures for Dev/Test/QA/DR environments (Rapid Clone, AD utilities, RMAN-based clones), including automation where appropriate.
  • Configure and tune the database and application tier to support high-volume parallel concurrent processing (Concurrent Manager tuning, parallel execution settings, resource allocation and scheduling).
  • Configure and support model routing within the EBS environment, including setup and management of additional application servers and routing of concurrent processing across servers.
  • Perform performance monitoring, capacity planning and proactive tuning (SQL tuning, instance parameters, resource management).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents; perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
  • Maintain security, user access controls, patching cycles and compliance for databases and Exadata systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and knowledge transfer: create runbooks, standard operating procedures, train and mentor other DBAs and system administrators.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (applications, network, storage, middleware) for deployments, upgrades, DR tests and major incidents.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support as required.
  • Travel to data centers or other company locations for deployments, DR testing or hardware upgrades as needed.
  • Lead efforts to automate database lifecycle activities using standard tools and practices.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews for new EBS/Exadata projects, upgrades or migrations.
  • Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams on audits (PCI, SOX) and enforce database-related security controls.
  • Evaluate new Exadata features Oracle releases and third-party tools, and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Develop and maintain capacity-planning models, cost analyses and lifecycle roadmaps for database infrastructure.
  • Own the development and maintenance of runbooks, playbooks and knowledge-base articles for self-service.
  • Participate in cross-team post-incident reviews and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years’ hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA & System Administrator supporting Oracle E-Business Suite R12.
  • Proven experience with Oracle Exadata hardware (installation, configuration, tuning, patching and troubleshooting).
  • Strong experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for monitoring and administration.
  • Solid expertise with RMAN backups, recovery scenarios, disaster recovery concepts; experience with Data Guard is a plus.
  • Experience designing and executing cloning procedures for EBS environments (Rapid Clone, AD utilities, RMAN, hot/cold clones).
  • Experience configuring and tuning databases and application tiers for parallel concurrent processing and Concurrent Manager optimization.
  • Experience implementing and supporting model routing in EBS and configuring additional application servers to support routing and workload distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of ASM, Grid Infrastructure, Oracle RAC, Linux for Oracle, and storage/networking concepts as they relate to Exadata.
  • Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL and shell scripting (bash); experience with automation/orchestration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.) and CI/CD is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience creating technical documentation and conducting knowledge transfer.
  • Oracle certifications (OCA/OCP/OCE) are preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Must be able to participate in an on-call rotation and travel to data centers or other sites as required.
  • Hands-on experience with automation/orchestration tools beyond basic scripting.
  • Familiarity with cloud or hybrid Exadata-Cloud architectures (OCI, AWS RDS, Azure).
  • Proficiency in a general-purpose scripting language (Python, Perl) for complex automation tasks.
  • Understanding of database security standards and best practices (encryption-at-rest, key management).
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills—able to translate technical concepts for business partners.
  • Oracle Exadata Database Machine Administrator or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure certifications (preferred).
  • Commitment to continuous learning: staying current on Oracle technology roadmaps, best practices and emerging trends.
