Role Description

We are seeking a Systems Administrator to support and maintain enterprise IT infrastructure and end-user computing environments for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in College Park, Maryland. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience administering Microsoft Windows environments, identity and access management, endpoint management, and enterprise systems administration. This role will work closely with infrastructure, security, and service desk teams to ensure systems are secure, reliable, compliant, and available to users.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Microsoft Windows Server and Windows desktop environments.
• Manage user identities, authentication, access, and security policies using Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) and Active Directory.
• Support Microsoft Intune / Mobile Device Management (MDM) for endpoint enrollment, configuration, compliance, application deployment, and device lifecycle management.
• Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) for software deployment, patching, operating system deployment, inventory, and endpoint management.
• Perform system configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Support Windows patch management, security updates, software distribution, and vulnerability remediation.
• Manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs), organizational units, permissions, and Windows security configurations.
• Assist with endpoint imaging, provisioning, configuration, and deployment.
• Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, application, networking, and authentication issues.
• Support enterprise identity and access management processes, including account provisioning/deprovisioning and role-based access.
• Develop and maintain system documentation, technical procedures, and operational runbooks.
• Participate in incident, problem, and change management activities.
• Work with cybersecurity teams to implement security controls and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Monitor system health and availability and respond to incidents and service requests.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, networking, application, and help desk teams.
• Participate in after-hours maintenance or on-call activities when required.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in systems administration or a related IT infrastructure role.
• Strong hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Windows environments.
• Experience administering Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
• Experience with Microsoft Intune / MDM and endpoint management.
• Experience with SCCM/MECM (Microsoft Configuration Manager).
• Knowledge of Windows patch management, software deployment, imaging, and endpoint configuration.
• Experience with Group Policy, authentication, permissions, and identity lifecycle management.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to document technical processes and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
• Experience working within structured IT service management and change-control processes.
