[Hiring] Junior Systems Administrator @Lesley Snyman and associates

Role Description

A boutique investment house based in Johannesburg is looking for a Junior Systems Administrator to help run its Windows server environment. This is a Microsoft server and infrastructure role rather than a networking one. The role covers:

• Windows Server
• Active Directory
• Group Policy
• DNS and DHCP
• Virtual servers
• File and print services
• On-premises Exchange environment

It is remote day to day, with regular attendance at the Sandton office to resolve hands-on issues in person. Training is provided in Microsoft 365, Entra ID, cybersecurity, backups and monitoring. The server fundamentals need to be in place already.

• Administer and troubleshoot the Windows Server environment, working problems through with Event Viewer, Services and system logs
• Administer Active Directory and Group Policy: users, groups, computers and organisational units, including policies created, changed and troubleshot
• Manage DNS and DHCP within the Windows domain, including scopes, reservations and leases
• Build and configure virtual servers in VMware or Hyper-V, through to joining them to the domain
• Run the Windows file, print and on-premises Exchange services, including shares, NTFS permissions and printers deployed through Group Policy
• Work remotely day to day, attending the Sandton office when an issue needs hands-on attention in person

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience across all five of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, virtualisation and DNS/DHCP. This is the minimum for consideration
• Work carried out personally rather than escalated. On virtualisation, that means having built a virtual server, not only logged in to one
• A reasonable understanding of networking: TCP/IP, gateways, DNS, VPNs and general connectivity troubleshooting
• A+, N+ or equivalent. A relevant IT diploma, certificate or degree is an advantage, not a requirement
• Own reliable transport and a valid driver's licence, for regular travel to the Sandton office
