Role Description

Five Rivers Analytics is looking for an Azure Cloud Engineer to work in North Charleston, SC. The Azure Cloud Engineer will serve as the primary technical expert responsible for migrating, designing, building, and sustaining the Software Asset Monitoring System (SAMS) within the Microsoft Azure cloud environment. This role will lead the development, test, and production environment build-out, provide authoritative guidance on Azure architecture best practices, and ensure secure, stable, and optimized cloud operations. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert (SME) in Azure configuration, cloud operations, virtual machines, dedicated hosts, and overall cloud-hosted infrastructure.

The qualified candidate must be located in either Charleston, SC or Stafford, VA for periodic visits to the customer site/location.

• Lead the end-to-end migration of the on-premise Software Asset Monitoring System (SAMS) into Microsoft Azure.
• Design, develop, and build Azure-based development, test, and production environments.
• Operate, monitor, and optimize SAMS cloud services including Azure Virtual Network, Azure Dedicated Hosts and VMs, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Monitor, Application Gateway, Key Vault, Azure Files, and API Management.
• Provide technical recommendations and cloud architecture guidance; translate architecture concepts into actionable engineering plans.
• Ensure cloud configurations meet security, performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Azure infrastructure, network, and service issues.
• Implement best practices for cloud operations, resource management, high availability, and cost optimization.
• Collaborate with project managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure cloud solution alignment with SAMS functional and operational needs.

Qualifications

• Active Secret Clearance, ability to obtain Top Secret.
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science or related field and 2-4 years of related experience.
• Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer, Azure Engineer, or similar role supporting enterprise cloud environments.
• Hands-on experience in Microsoft Azure configuration, deployment, and operations.
• Expertise in virtual machine architecture, dedicated host management, and cloud-hosted infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge and operational experience with Azure services including VNet, VMs, SQL Database, Key Vault, Azure Files, Application Gateway, API Management, and Azure Monitor.
• Demonstrated ability to design and build cloud-based development, test, and production environments.
• Experience supporting cloud migrations from on-prem to Azure.
• Strong analytical troubleshooting skills across network, compute, and data services.
• Ability to clearly translate cloud architecture recommendations into actionable engineering designs.

Requirements

• Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer).
• Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and enterprise data platform integrations.
• Knowledge of automation tools (ARM/Bicep templates, PowerShell, Terraform, or similar).
• Familiarity with cloud security best practices and Zero Trust approaches.
• Experience in monitoring, logging, and performance optimization using Azure-native tools.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to advise and guide stakeholders on Azure applicability and best practices.
