Role Description

Under the direction of the VP, Human Resources, the Senior Director, Compensation and Benefits provides leadership, strategy, and vision related to the design, development, and implementation of improvements to Road Scholar's various compensation and benefits programs.

  • Develop and implement organizational human resources policies (ensuring compliance with various federal agency requirements).
  • Create salary structures and/or wage schedules.
  • Negotiate organization-wide benefits packages.
  • Act as executive sponsor for significant implementations including the HRIS and Payroll systems.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the senior management team, including the CEO, in developing human resources.

Road Scholar offers a remote work environment. The compensation range for this exempt level salaried position is $136,000 - $180,000 based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business, or other related field required.
  • 10+ years Human Resources management experience, specifically overseeing compensation and/or benefit plan design and administration.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) strongly preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR certification a plus.
  • Proven knowledge and experience working with benefit programs, brokers, and vendors for health, dental, life and AD&D insurance, 403(b) and COBRA.
  • Proven organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills necessary.
  • Extensive experience managing a team of subordinate managers in the various disciplines in which responsible.
  • Exceptional customer-service, communication (writing, editing, verbal, and presentation) skills necessary.
  • Proven skill with Microsoft Office, Excel and HRIS systems a must.
  • Experience conducting new hire orientation preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (collaboration, advanced problem-solving orientation and decision making, teamwork).

Requirements

  • Lead, manage, and develop all staff involved with benefits and compensation, including the HRIS system.
  • Continually evaluate the competitiveness and effectiveness of Road Scholar's benefit programs.
  • Responsible for delivering the highest quality of service to Road Scholar employees.
  • Executive sponsor for major initiatives related to benefits programs.
  • Regularly assess effectiveness and utilization of existing programs.
  • Develop annual benefits budget based on plan design changes and pricing/claims projections.
  • Oversee and assess services of benefits consultants, brokers, and other providers.
  • Ensure benefit plan compliance with federal and state regulations and tax codes.
  • Accountable for branding of Road Scholar benefits and communication program to employees.
  • Manage all renewals and annual open enrollment.
  • Conduct/Facilitate employee satisfaction surveys, workshops, and trainings.
  • Work with Senior Leadership to ensure understanding of executive benefits programs.
  • Evaluate, lead, and direct the effectiveness of Road Scholar’s compensation programs.
  • Develop, propose, and implement variable pay programs.
  • Design, propose, and implement effective communication and education strategies for management and employees.
  • Conduct annual market pay analysis and present findings to Senior management.
  • Plan, develop, and execute the administration of employee compensation programs.
  • Participate in project assignments related to competitive pay practices and economic trends.
  • Ensure internal equity and external competitiveness with wages and salaries.
  • Advise senior management regarding compensation budgets and strategic plans.
  • Prepare Board Committee materials and participate in Board meetings.
  • Collaborate with senior managers in stewarding the annual merit process.
  • Ensure accurate, current job descriptions exist to support the organization's compensation structure.
  • Develop and deliver employee communications and training related to compensation programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental record-keeping and reporting requirements for compensation programs.
  • Perform other related and unrelated responsibilities as needed to support the Human Resources function.
