Role Description

Reporting to the Manager, Psychological Health and Safety, the Psychological Health and Safety Lead serves as SWITCH BC's technical subject matter expert in psychological health and safety, psychosocial hazard prevention, and related occupational health and safety approaches. The Lead develops, implements, evaluates, and continually improves evidence-informed provincial resources, tools, frameworks, guides, learning supports, and implementation approaches that address shared psychological health and safety priorities across British Columbia's healthcare sector.

Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, the Lead applies subject matter expertise, partner feedback, system input, leading practices, and continual improvement approaches to develop practical, scalable resources and supports that strengthen psychological health and safety across diverse healthcare settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides subject matter expertise and technical guidance regarding psychological health and safety, psychosocial hazards, occupational health and safety principles, safety management systems, workplace wellbeing, prevention strategies, and the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
• Translates complex concepts, evidence, and technical information into accessible, practical learning resources, tools, and supports that promote understanding and application across diverse healthcare settings.
• Develops and continually improves evidence-informed resources, frameworks, tools, guides, learning supports, and implementation materials that address identified needs and support psychological health and safety across diverse healthcare settings.
• Ensures resources and supports are practical, accurate, accessible, aligned with applicable standards and leading practices, and informed by partner feedback, evaluation findings, and lessons learned.
• Incorporates partner feedback, evaluation findings, lessons learned, and leading practices into the continual improvement of psychological health and safety resources, tools, frameworks, and implementation supports.
• Prepares materials and facilitates meetings, workshops, engagement activities, partner tables, or collaborative planning processes to gather input, support shared learning, and inform psychological health and safety program initiatives.
• Collaborates with healthcare partners, committees, working groups, and subject matter experts to identify needs, gather input, test approaches, and inform resource and program development.
• Develops high-quality reports, briefing materials, presentations, guidance documents, and knowledge products that communicate complex information clearly and are suitable for senior leaders, provincial partners, committees, and diverse audiences.
• Applies occupational health and safety, safety management system, change management, adult learning, and continuous improvement principles to support practical and sustainable psychological health and safety approaches.
• Collaborates with project, evaluation, implementation, and subject matter experts to ensure psychological health and safety resources, tools, and supports are practical, scalable, and responsive to partner needs across diverse healthcare settings.
• Develops and supports learning, engagement, and capacity-building activities that strengthen knowledge, awareness, and application of psychological health and safety practices across the healthcare sector in line with SWITCH BC’s mandate and approved initiatives.
• Applies research, evaluation findings, partner input, emerging practices, and subject matter expertise to develop practical solutions, resources, recommendations, and capacity-building supports.
• Monitors emerging research, legislation, standards, and leading practices to identify opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement, and future resource development.
• Fosters a safe, just work culture, encouraging and welcoming open identification of issues, non-violent dialogue, and practices for cultural safety and inclusion.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a master's degree in occupational health and safety, behavioural science, human factors, organizational psychology, public health, or a related discipline plus five (5) years of recent related experience.
• Experience working within British Columbia's healthcare sector and familiarity with collective bargaining associations is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of psychological health and safety principles, psychosocial hazards, workplace wellbeing, psychological safety, occupational health and safety principles, safety management systems, hazard identification, risk management, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace and its practical application within complex organizational environments.
• Working knowledge of British Columbia occupational health and safety legislation, workplace standards, WorkSafeBC requirements, collective bargaining association environments, and the ability to incorporate these considerations into resource and tool development.
• Ability to build productive relationships and work collaboratively with employers, unions, physicians, healthcare leaders, joint committees, and other partners.
• Proficiency in full cycle product development including design, development, implementation, evaluation, and refinement of resource materials, pilot initiatives, learning supports, and capacity-building tools.
• Highly skilled in translating findings, partner input, and leading practices into practical, evidence-informed resources, tools, frameworks, and implementation supports.
• Ability to prepare high-quality reports, recommendations, presentations, briefing materials, and knowledge products suitable for leaders, provincial partners, committees, and diverse audiences.
• Highly organized and able to gather, synthesize, and document partner feedback into resource development and continuous improvement activities.
• Proficiency in change management frameworks, continuous improvement, facilitation, and/or adult learning methodologies.
• Excellent systems-thinking, critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to facilitate discussions, engagement activities, and collaborative processes involving diverse perspectives, interests, and priorities.
• Ability to take complex concepts and turn them into accessible, usable learning products and supports and proven ability to communicate complex concepts into clear and practical language tailored to diverse audiences.
• Able to navigate ambiguity and support solution-focused approaches in evolving environments.
• Able to work independently, exercise sound judgment, prioritize workload, and manage multiple competing priorities.

Job Type

• Temporary Full-Time (2 year contract), 37.5 hours per week.
• This is a backfill position.

Salary Range

• $90,770.00 - $107,789.00 (Range 8) per year depending on experience
• Typical Hiring Range: $100,000.00 - $107,789.00 per year depending on experience
