Role Description

The HR Manager is responsible for all aspects of human resources services for geographically dispersed client groups. They serve as a key HR point of contact for the Pacific Division. Reporting to the Human Resources Director (HRD), the Human Resources Manager (HRM) will provide a broad range of direct HR support across the division to staff and managers on moderately complex and nuanced HR matters. Serving as a trusted advisor to employees at all levels, the HRM will anticipate and help resolve moderately complex and confidential HR issues and employee and management questions, drawing on a comprehensive knowledge of TNC’s policies and procedures. This position must be located in the state of California or Hawaii.

Responsibilities & Scope

  • Strategic partnership & advisory role
    • Build and maintain strong partnerships with the PD HR Team, NAR HR Team, People Team, and Divisional and BU leadership to align HR practices with organizational goals.
    • Respond to moderately complex employee and management questions and issues based on knowledge of HR best practices, TNC guidelines, and local employment law.
    • Consult with hiring managers on the recruitment process, including creation of and/or consultation on job design, job descriptions, grade levels, and compensation.
  • Workforce planning, equity, and talent systems
    • Support the HR Director in assessing workforce planning needs, including job analysis, promotions, reclassifications, restructuring, talent reviews, stay interviews, and coaching on career development pathways.
    • In partnership with the HR Director and Sr. HR Manager, lead the annual equity review process to ensure pay disparities are appropriately justified and/or corrected.
  • Talent development and performance
    • Lead the implementation of core TNC trainings and workshops, assess training needs at the division and BU levels, and partner with the Regional Learning Manager to ensure effective delivery.
    • Support the Performance Partnership process and lead the annual ratings calibration process.
    • Support managers and staff with the Performance Partnership process including objective setting, performance management, rating calibration, and merit planning.
  • Communications, engagement, and culture
    • In partnership with the PD HR Team, lead HR communications, including division-wide regular and special communications (email, PD Newsletter, PD HR Connect site) and BU-level communications to state directors, managers, and all staff.
    • Support interpretation and debrief of TNC Survey results, advising leaders on action planning.
    • Collaborate with Culture & Engagement teams to support and advance initiatives and deliver trainings and workshops across the division.
    • Support employee well-being initiatives and promote participation in TNC wellness programs.
  • Employee relations, compliance, and transitions
    • Serve as point of contact and provide guidance on Leave of Absence process and assist employees as an LOA liaison between the Pacific Division and the Benefits Team.
    • Serve as point of contact and provide guidance on Workers Compensation and assist employees in partnership with the Benefits Team.
    • Conduct exit interviews and synthesize insights to support continuous improvement.
    • Oversee the ADA interactive process.
    • Serve as a point of contact and provide guidance on domestic and global mobility considerations for staff transitions.
  • Data, rigor, and professional expectations
    • Generate reports and analyze and interpret HR data, metrics, and dashboards to identify trends and emerging needs.
    • Keep current with relevant employment laws and assist managers and staff with interpretation and compliance.
    • May require some amount of travel domestically and evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field and a minimum of 5 years related work experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience and/or training in California or Hawai‘i employment laws and experience in managing HR for staff based in California or Hawai‘i. Global experience appreciated.
  • Experience developing and leading multiple HR-related projects and implementing strategic HR programs.
  • Experience responding to moderately complex HR related questions and problems from employees/management within the context of U.S. employment law.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: employee relations, compensation, benefits, investigations, organizational design, performance management, separations, restructuring, workforce planning, employment law.
  • Experience facilitating complex and crucial conversations and building effective consultative relationships.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet commitments.
  • Experience working with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Experience developing and implementing change management plans.

  • Ability to juggle multiple competing and time-sensitive priorities.
  • Experience producing reports and interpreting data to inform people priorities and recommendations.
  • Experience evaluating multiple processes to develop a unified standard.
  • Ability to design comprehensive HR recommendations and advise all levels of employees to influence the best outcomes for the organization and employees.
  • HR certification preferred (such as AIHR, PHR, SHRM-CP).

Salary Information

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $85,000 to $101,500. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
