Role Description
Instacart’s Tax team partners across the business to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting while enabling smart, scalable growth. We are seeking a Senior Analyst, Tax Provision & Compliance to support our quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 and related standards, and to contribute to our income tax compliance processes. This role reports directly to the Director, Tax Provision & Compliance and works closely with Controllership, FP&A, Legal, Internal Audit, and Treasury.
In this role, you will take on meaningful ownership of provision and compliance workflows that directly impact our effective tax rate, cash taxes, and external financial reporting. You’ll collaborate with internal partners and external advisors and auditors to deliver high-quality results on tight timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to help build and enhance processes, implement provision software and other tax technology, and drive automation and efficiency across the tax function. You’ll have the chance to work directly with the Director of Tax Provision & Compliance and a broader Tax team of 19 (including 4 on the Direct Tax team) while partnering with our external auditors and advisors.
Qualifications

3–5+ years of progressive corporate income tax experience focused on ASC 740 tax provision and U.S. federal and multistate income tax compliance in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Hands-on experience preparing and/or reviewing quarterly and annual tax provisions, including deferred tax, valuation allowance, and uncertain tax position (FIN 48) analyses.

Experience preparing and/or reviewing U.S. federal and multistate corporate income tax returns, including estimated and extension payment calculations and return-to-provision reconciliations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., advanced formulas and pivot tables) to analyze large datasets and build robust workpapers.

Experience supporting SOX controls for income tax reporting and working with internal and external auditors.

Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration with Controllership/Accounting, FP&A, and Legal on tax accounting and reporting deliverables.
Requirements

Prepare and review the quarterly and annual income tax provision in compliance with ASC 740, FIN 18, and related standards.

Execute and review global income tax reporting calculations, including deferred tax assets/liabilities, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions (FIN 48), and effective tax rate analyses.

Support tax accounting for stock-based compensation and prepare return-to-provision reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Partner with FP&A to model and forecast future effective tax rates and cash taxes; provide scenario analyses to inform business decisions.

Draft and support tax disclosures for SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q) and other financial statements in partnership with Controllership and Investor Relations.

Maintain SOX-compliant documentation, execute and evidence key internal controls for tax reporting, and support internal/external audit requests.

Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns and workpapers, including U.S. taxation of foreign operations (GILTI/FDII/Subpart F); manage estimated and extension payment calculations; maintain the tax calendar.

Monitor and research legislative and regulatory changes (including Pillar Two), assess impacts, and draft clear technical memos.

Drive process optimization initiatives, including evaluating and implementing provision software and other tax technology and automation tools.

Support income tax audits and R&D tax credit studies; collaborate with cross-functional partners and external advisors to resolve issues efficiently.
