[Hiring] Revenue Auditor 2 @State of Washington

Role Description

The Washington State Department of Revenue's Audit Division is now hiring a Revenue Auditor 2 position. The successful candidate will be located in Philadelphia, PA (we will consider Providence, RI or Hartford, CT), working from a home office in the geographical area. Internal candidates must be willing to relocate.

Audit coverage will be based on the location the assignment dictates. In addition to your base salary, you will receive an additional 10% assignment pay to maintain an out-of-state office location (this increase is not included in the salary stated above/below).

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and tools, including:
  • Applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and auditing principles
  • Use of advanced Excel techniques (functions/formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data validation)
  • Evaluating electronic accounting systems to validate data integrity
• Proven skills in research, analysis, and problem-solving, shown through:
  • Planning and conducting research using Washington state tax laws and rules
  • Collection and synthesis of relevant financial and operational data
  • Identifying risk exposures and selecting methods to address those risks
• Demonstrated experience in planning and organization, including:
  • Independently managing multiple assignments
  • Regularly evaluating status and reprioritizing scope, methods, and time allocation
• Proven ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and persuasively, both written and verbally, shown through:
  • Explaining complex audit concepts and tax implications
  • Delivering unfavorable outcomes professionally
  • Composing clear narrative reports and structured responses
• Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities, workflows, and policies, including:
  • Demonstrated openness to changing ideas and responsibilities
  • Working with a high degree of autonomy while contributing collaboratively

Requirements

• Experience with a state tax agency, corporate tax department, or in a professional accounting role focused primarily on state and local or indirect taxes is desired.
• Any combination of professional experience or education, such as:
  • Demonstrated professional experience in the required competencies
  • Four or more years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, tax compliance, or tax administration
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of college-level accounting
