[Hiring] Pricing & Risk Analyst @Kin Insurance

Today - Kin Insurance is hiring a remote Pricing & Risk Analyst. πŸ’Έ Salary: usd 80,000 - 115,000 per year πŸ“Location: USA, Canada

Role Description

We're looking for a Pricing & Risk Analyst to help us find where Kin can grow profitably, state by state and segment by segment. This role sits on our Pricing and Risk Management team and focuses on state growth and segmentation. You'll work alongside state managers and business partners to turn policy, quote, and claims data into practical recommendations.

This is an entry-level role built for someone curious and detail-oriented who wants to learn how analytics shape real pricing and risk decisions. AI is part of how this team works every day. You'll use Databricks Genie, Claude Code, and approved MCP connections to explore data, automate recurring work, and spend more of your time on the questions that matter.

Responsibilities

  • Own recurring state performance reporting on quote volume, quote-to-bind conversion, new business, premium, retention, and loss experience, and investigate what's driving changes in results.
  • Analyze performance across geography, risk characteristics, coverage, and distribution channels to surface growth opportunities and segments that need closer review.
  • Evaluate how proposed rate changes, underwriting rules, and shifts in business mix could affect growth and profitability.
  • Build and maintain competitive research that informs state comparisons and points to potential product or pricing opportunities.
  • Use Databricks Genie to explore data, and Claude Code to write SQL queries, build analytical scripts, automate recurring reports, and document findings.
  • Bring relevant data and business context into analytical workflows through approved MCP connections.
  • Validate data, calculations, and AI-generated outputs; document sources and assumptions, and raise questions early when results look uncertain or inconsistent.
  • Deliver clear charts and concise summaries for Pricing and Risk and partner teams, developing recommendations alongside experienced colleagues.
  • Measure performance after pricing, underwriting, and product changes go live.

Success in this role

  • State performance analyses arrive accurate and on time, and the team trusts your explanation of what changed and why.
  • The team is acting on profitable state growth opportunities that your analysis helped bring to light.
  • Recurring reports run through repeatable AI-assisted workflows instead of manual effort.
  • You're independently handling analyses that once required close guidance.

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience; internships, coursework, and analytical projects count.
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, finance, business, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Foundational SQL skills and proficiency with Excel or similar spreadsheet tools.
  • Experience analyzing data to identify patterns, investigate questions, and explain findings.
  • Hands-on experience using AI for analytical or coding tasks (academic or personal projects count), and a willingness to regularly use and build proficiency in Claude Code, Databricks Genie, and MCP-enabled workflows.
  • Attention to detail and the judgment to question and verify AI-generated results before relying on them.
  • Ability to explain findings in plain language, stay curious, and manage assignments with guidance.

Bonus if you have

  • Familiarity with Claude Code, Databricks Genie, or MCP connections.
  • Exposure to P&C insurance, pricing, underwriting, or risk analysis.
  • Familiarity with Python, data visualization, or statistical analysis.
  • A project showing how you used AI to analyze data, validate results, and communicate a recommendation.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and company equity through Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), granted as part of our standard compensation package and based on role and level.
  • 401(k) with company match up to 4% of eligible earnings.
  • Multiple medical plan options, plus dental and vision coverage.
  • Company-funded HSA contributions (based on medical plan selection).
  • Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability.
  • A variety of supplemental benefit options, including long-term disability, critical illness, accident, legal, and pet insurance.
  • Access to mental health support and confidential counseling resources.
  • Flexible PTO for exempt employees (most employees take 15–20 days per year), plus 8 company-observed holidays.
  • Paid parental leave, including up to 14 weeks at 100% pay for birthing parents and 8 weeks at 100% pay for non-birthing parents.
  • Career mobility and internal growth opportunities across the organization.
  • Professional development budgets for certifications, conferences, and learning available, subject to management approval.

How we hire

  • We believe a great hiring experience should be clear, respectful, and human.
  • Prompt updates and feedback following interviews.
  • Interviews with recruiters, hiring managers, and members of teams.
  • Skills assessment relevant to the position, if applicable.
  • Genuine, thoughtful human interaction at every step.
