Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Pricing Actuary to join our actuarial team and lead key pricing, modeling, and analytical initiatives with a strong focus on Workers’ Compensation. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong business judgment, and the ability to translate complex actuarial insights into actionable recommendations for underwriting, product, and senior leadership teams.
This role may sit in any of Zenith's regional offices across the US. Candidates who sit outside these geographies may also be considered for a fully remote arrangement.
Responsibilities

Develop, enhance, and maintain workers’ compensation pricing models, including class‑level, segment‑level, and account‑level pricing tools.

Conduct rate adequacy studies, trend analyses, and loss cost reviews to support pricing decisions and regulatory filings.

Partner with Underwriting, Product, and Finance teams to evaluate pricing strategies, portfolio performance, and profitability.

Lead research initiatives to identify emerging trends, cost drivers, and competitive dynamics in the marketplace.

Partner with the Large Commercial team to assist in the pricing of loss sensitive products (e.g. guaranteed cost, retro, large deductibles).

Build and automate data pipelines, dashboards, and analytical tools to improve pricing efficiency and accuracy.

Establish benchmark pricing for WC TPA related services.

Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear, concise, and business‑focused manner.

Mentor junior analysts and contribute to best‑practice development across the actuarial function.

Directly manage one direct report.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or comparable discipline required.

ACAS/FCAS or equivalent actuarial credentials (designation preferred but not required, depending on experience).
Requirements

Minimum 8 years of actuarial experience, with significant workers’ compensation pricing experience strongly preferred.

Experience with Auto, Property, and GL a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of state regulatory environments, NCCI/independent bureau filings, and rate‑making processes.

Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Experience with statistical learning concepts (e.g. GLMs).
Preferred / Additional Skills

Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.

Experience with portfolio optimization, segmentation, or elasticity analysis.

Understanding of insurance finance, including profitability metrics and capital considerations.

Programming of statistical learning methods (e.g. GLMs) in R/Python.
Pay, Benefits, and Other Information
The expected salary range for this position is $160,000 to $220,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
