[Hiring] Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis @Avalara

Role Description

As our Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, you will:

• Lead economic modeling and capacity discipline for the Operations and R&D delivery engine.
• Translate Sales demand, pricing inputs, and roadmap sequencing into clear operational capacity and cost projections.
• Ground delivery plans economically and align them to gross margin targets.
• Lead the Operations side economic drivers that directly influence margin outcomes.
• Partner with Sales, Product, and central FP&A to ensure operational realities are reflected in financial forecasts.
• Focus on delivery capacity thoughtfulness, cost-to-serve transparency, and operational margin visibility.
• Report to the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis.

This is a remote position in the United States. #LI-Remote

Responsibilities

• Create the end-to-end cost-of-revenue and capacity models.
• Translate Sales demand and roadmap changes into multi-period capacity and margin forecasts.
• Identify capacity constraints, use risk, and cost inflection points.
• Produce structured cost-to-serve analysis to inform pricing and roadmap tradeoffs.
• Provide governance rhythm linking headcount plans, vendor spend, and delivery capacity to margin targets.

Qualifications

• Experience with AI and automation tools to improve modeling efficiency, data workflows, and decision velocity.
• 6+ years in FP&A, finance, or analytics with demonstrated ownership of operational drivers (not just reporting).
• Experience building driver-based models that influence decisions.
• Experience running disciplined forecasting and operating cadences.
• Executive-ready narrative skills - can translate complexity into decision asks.
• Experience with stakeholder management; comfortable challenging assumptions.
• Advanced experience with Excel and comfortable navigating large, messy datasets.

Pay Range Details

• Colorado: $111,300-$178,100 (annually)
• Washington: $111,300-$196,700 (annually)
• California: $111,300-$215,400 (annually)
• NYC: $134,600-$215,400 (annually)

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
