Role Description
The Loan Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing the day-to-day operational and financial accounting for residential mortgage lending activities. This role manages loan funding, warehouse financing, secondary marketing transactions, loans held for sale (LHFS), and trust/escrow liabilities.

Ensure strict compliance with US GAAP and mortgage industry regulations.

Maintain robust internal controls.

Partner closely with Secondary Marketing, Loan Operations, Post-Closing, and Servicing teams.
Responsibilities
-
Loan Funding, Warehouse Line & Secondary Marketing Accounting:
-
Oversee daily loan-level accounting for funding & purchases.
-
Manage daily warehouse line reconciliations, ensuring all borrowings, repayments, & interest calculations match warehouse lender statements and internal records.

General Ledger & Month-End Close:
-
Work with corporate accounting & finance on the monthly, quarterly, and year-end loan accounting close processes within established reporting deadlines.

Review and approve journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and amortization schedules for loan origination & sales cost.

Analyze loan-level general ledger variances, identifying discrepancies and ensuring timely adjustments.

Team Leadership & Operational Excellence:

Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of loan accounting specialists and staff accountants.

Establish clear performance objectives, conduct regular reviews, and provide ongoing technical training and coaching.

Identify opportunities to automate workflows, optimize loan accounting system capabilities, and streamline interfaces between the Loan Origination System (LOS) and General Ledger.

Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls:

Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls over mortgage loan accounting processes and reconciliation workflows.

Coordinate internal, external, regulatory, and warehouse bank audit requests by preparing audit schedules, confirmations, and loan-level supporting documentation.
Qualifications
-
Bachelorβs degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in mortgage banking or residential lending accounting.

Minimum 2 years of direct supervisory or team management experience.

Direct working knowledge of mortgage accounting software (such as AMB/Advantage Mortgage Bookkeeping, Loan Vision, or similar industry ERP systems).

Familiarity with Loan Origination Systems (e.g., Encompass) and servicing platforms (e.g., MSP).

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (vlookups, index/match, pivot tables, sumifs, and complex data modeling).

Preferred: Direct experience with warehouse facility treasury operations and secondary marketing lock/trade reconciliation.

Experience with database queries, Power BI, or report writing tools.

Standard office environment with options for hybrid/remote arrangements depending on company policy.

Extended periods of computer/screen use and keyboarding.

Must be available to support month-end close schedules that may periodically require flexible working hours.
