Role Description
Mutual of Omaha is looking to fill a position on the Investment Accounting team. The Investment Accounting Team is responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual investment reporting. This includes:

Review of financial transactions for accuracy

Preparation of quarterly and annual statements

Research into new GAAP or Statutory accounting pronouncements
This individual will support the investment accounting processes and analysis including:

Review of new investment strategies to determine appropriate financial reporting

Lead high level projects involving a variety of business partners
Qualifications
-
Bachelorβs degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
-
Experience in insurance investment accounting, including Statutory and GAAP
-
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply accounting guidance to complex investment transactions
-
Strong understanding of insurance investment accounting principles
-
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
-
Strong Excel skills (advanced proficiency required)

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to travel occasionally (approximately 5β10% annually) to attend Finance and Actuarial events (travel reimbursed)

Requirements

Perform accounting and financial analysis for private equity and alternative investments, including limited partnerships and other complex investment structures

Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
-
Analyze capital calls, distributions, investment income, realized and unrealized gains/losses, impairments, and valuation changes

Apply and interpret relevant Statutory and U.S. GAAP accounting guidance for alternative investments

Collaborate with Investment Management, Actuarial, and Finance teams to explain results and resolve accounting questions

Interact directly with internal and external auditors, including preparation of audit support and responses to inquiries

Navigate and collaborate with Investment Management stakeholders and external vendors
-
Continuously identify opportunities to enhance processes, controls, and supporting documentation
-
Provide support for derivatives and other investment types as needed, with primary responsibility focused on alternatives
