Role Description

The Credit Analyst III, Specialty Lending position is a senior-level analyst embedded within the Bank's Credit Analyst group, responsible for independently underwriting complex credit requests across specialty lending sectors, including:

• Litigation financing
• Fund finance
• Leveraged lending
• Life settlements lending
• Other specialized industries designated by the Bank

This role requires strong analytical expertise and sound credit judgment given the atypical collateral, cash flow, and risk characteristics common to specialty lending transactions. It contributes to the overall credit quality and risk management framework of the Specialty Lending Group while providing guidance to junior analysts and periodically assisting with distinct projects.

MVB’s Credit Team may consider candidates for a higher-level position (Senior Credit Analyst) based on the depth and breadth of their experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
• 5-7+ years of progressive credit analysis experience required; direct exposure to specialty, structured, asset-based, or non-traditional lending products strongly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in commercial financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, and credit structuring.
• Working knowledge of asset-based lending mechanics.
• Understanding of litigation finance fundamentals.
• Sponsor-backed M&A experience, and exit-strategy viability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

• Independently underwrite and analyze complex specialty lending transactions.
• Evaluate collateral and repayment structures atypical to conventional commercial lending.
• Construct and monitor borrowing base calculations, advance rates, and collateral eligibility.
• Assess litigation finance-specific risk factors.
• Evaluate sponsor experience, loan-to-value/loan-to-cost metrics, and exit-strategy feasibility.
• Prepare comprehensive credit presentations and risk assessments.
• Evaluate complex financial structures.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior credit staff.
• Monitor industry, legal, and regulatory developments affecting specialty lending sectors.
