Role Description

This is a fully remote position, but we prefer candidates located in the Denver, CO area to allow for occasional in-person collaboration with company leadership.

Today, much of our accounting work is handled by external providers. This role will bring that ownership in-house and establish stronger financial processes, reporting, and controls. The Controller will be hands-on, managing the close process, maintaining accurate financial records, and improving financial processes while helping leadership gain better visibility into the company.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong, detail-oriented accounting leader who enjoys building systems, improving processes, and working closely with company leadership in a growing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• CPA or CPA-track candidates strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience owning financial reporting or the close process.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience working at a growing company or startup environment is preferred.
• Ability to build and improve financial systems and processes.
• Comfortable working directly with founders and leadership.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to take ownership of complex financial responsibilities.
• Experience with multi-state tax compliance.
• Experience working in SaaS, hosting, or tech companies.

Requirements

• Own the Accounting Function
  • Take ownership of the company’s accounting operations, including general ledger management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Manage and improve the monthly close process to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Maintain and improve the company’s chart of accounts and accounting policies.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all financial records.
• Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee compliance with multi-state tax, payroll, and regulatory requirements in coordination with external advisors.
  • Maintain documentation and internal controls to support future audit readiness.
  • Help guide the company toward GAAP-aligned financial reporting.
• Financial Systems & Process Improvements
  • Evaluate and improve accounting systems, financial tools, and workflows.
  • Implement scalable processes that support the company’s continued growth.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve financial visibility.
  • Support integration between accounting systems and operational platforms where appropriate.
• Planning & Business Insights
  • Support leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Help translate financial results into actionable insights for company leadership.
  • Provide visibility into key financial metrics that support decision-making.
• Growth & Leadership
  • Work directly with company leadership as a trusted financial partner.
  • Help establish best practices for financial operations as the company scales.
  • Over time, assist in building and mentoring an accounting team as needed.

• Salary range: $120,000 – $160,000 depending on experience.
