Role Description
As the AVP, Actuary, you will be responsible for:

Pricing, product development, reserving, and R&D predictive analytics in support of Sompoβs direct agricultural insurance programs across multiple countries.

Developing yield prediction models in R.

Leading product funding and broader predictive analytics initiatives.
Location: This position will be based remotely in Ohio or Kansas, or in our Lenexa, KS office.

What youβll be doing:

Develop, run, validate, and implement premium rating, reserving, and risk models for Sompo's agricultural insurance programs globally.

Build satellite-based yield prediction models (NDVI/remote sensing) and product funding models in R to support pricing, funding, and risk selection.

Lead and contribute to R&D predictive analytics projects that advance the team's modeling and risk-assessment capabilities.

Perform actuarial pricing (experience and exposure rating), analyze program performance and loss costs, and assess capital requirements through stochastic and financial modeling.

Support new product development and collaborate across underwriting, product, and analytics teams.

Meet with external clients and partners, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum 5 years' actuarial pricing experience.

Strong R programming skills, including statistical and predictive model development; experience with remote sensing or geospatial data a plus.

Ability to build models and perform analysis focused on key business risks, with strong intuition and judgment.

Bachelor's degree, with specialization in Actuarial Science or Statistics preferred; designation in ACAS or FCAS preferred.

Experience managing analytical processes and projects end to end.

Excellent technical, analytical, written, and oral communication skills.

Exceptionally motivated, organized, and detail-oriented; a team player who works well under pressure, meets tight deadlines, and adapts to changing priorities.
Requirements

Salary Range: $149,000 - $190,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
