[Hiring] Associate Director, Actuarial @Oscar Health

Role Description

The Associate Director, Actuarial leads and develops a team of Actuarial professionals and is responsible for pricing several ACA markets. The Associate Director, Actuarial will:

• Review the reasonableness of results.
• Quantify risks inherent in decisions.
• Make recommendations that help Oscar achieve market goals.
• Mentor and develop Oscar's team of actuaries, including Managers and Analysts.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in Finance, Market P&L, and Product Development.

You will report into the VP, Actuarial.

This position is fully remote and open to candidates residing in the U.S., excluding Alaska; Delaware; Hawaii; Louisiana; Montana; North Dakota; Oklahoma; West Virginia; Wyoming; and U.S. Territories. Daily work is completed from your home office, with occasional travel required for team meetings and company events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, or 4 years commensurate experience.
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), or actively pursuing exams to attain fellowship.
• 7+ years of actuarial and/or quantitative analysis experience.

Requirements

• Own financial estimates and forecasts; communicate findings and critical actuarial recommendations to senior management.
• Lead team initiatives to enhance actuarial models and methodologies.
• Oversee the end-to-end actuarial pricing processes within a specific portfolio or sub-portfolio.
• Influence and collaborate with key stakeholders to guide strategic business decisions with respect to rates.
• Have an in-depth understanding of key financial risks and opportunities within the portfolio and across Oscar's business.
• Provide an actuarial viewpoint across cross-functional teams for your portfolio as we rapidly grow in existing and new markets and business lines.
• Mentor, coach, and provide actuarial team members with regular feedback.
• Lead and shape Oscar actuarial best practices with respect to automation and documentation.
• Develop strong relationships, rapport, and lines of communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
