The Assistant Vice President, Healthcare Solutions Underwriting is a leadership role responsible for driving the profitable growth and influencing the strategic direction of a healthcare underwriting portfolio encompassing:

Medical Malpractice

Healthcare Professional Liability

General Liability for miscellaneous medical facilities (primary and excess)

Physicians and physician groups

Stand-alone Sexual Misconduct & Physical Abuse for healthcare providers and facilities
This individual will maintain strong producer and client relationships across an assigned territory. The AVP will serve as a key voice in shaping underwriting strategy, mentoring talent, and representing the Healthcare Solutions brand in the marketplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Drive the profitable growth of a complex book of new and renewal healthcare business, setting clear portfolio objectives and monitoring performance against targets.

Exercise senior underwriting authority in accordance with published guidelines, making sound risk selection and pricing decisions across a broad spectrum of healthcare risks.

Establish and communicate underwriting strategy for the assigned portfolio, initiating corrective actions when performance requires adjustment.

Effectively negotiate and secure policy terms that align with company directives; provide detailed guidance to team members on terms, conditions, and rating decisions.

Analyze claims activity, loss trends, and portfolio performance data to inform risk decisions and strategic direction.

Cultivate and manage senior-level producer and client relationships throughout the assigned territory, serving as a primary point of contact for key accounts and wholesale brokers.

Develop and present portfolio performance reviews, market analysis, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Collaborate cross-functionally with claims, actuarial, loss control, and other aligned business units to drive coordinated outcomes.

Champion new business development by identifying emerging opportunities and expanding the company's presence in the marketplace.

Compose, prepare, generate correspondence, proposals, underwriting reports, and presentations as needed.

Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for underwriting questions, peer review, and escalated risks.

Represent the Healthcare Solutions team at industry events, conferences, and producer meetings; willingness and ability to travel as required (estimated 25-30%).

Qualifications

Minimum 7+ years of experience within the healthcare underwriting segment or as a healthcare producer, with a focus on healthcare facility risks and/or physician risks; experience in casualty lines including GL, HNOA, and excess liability strongly preferred.

Demonstrated leadership experience, including management or formal mentorship of underwriting staff preferred.

Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree a plus.

Deep knowledge of specialized healthcare liability forms, wording, and program structures.

Strong, established relationships within the wholesale brokerage community.

Proven track record of portfolio management, profitable growth, and market development.

Ability and willingness to be highly visible in the marketplace and travel as necessary.

Ability to document and maintain underwriting files that are professional, thorough, and compliant.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, pivot tables).
Specialized Knowledge / Beneficial Skills and Experience

Professional certifications preferred (e.g., CPCU, ARM, RPLU or equivalent).

Familiarity with healthcare industry concepts, practices, regulatory environment, and emerging risk trends.

Demonstrated executive presence and the ability to represent the organization to external stakeholders with credibility and confidence.

Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex data into clear recommendations.

Ability to operate strategically while managing day-to-day underwriting responsibilities and team needs.
Compensation & Benefits
-
The applicable base salary for this opportunity is $140,000 β $180,000. The base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements.
