Role Description
Privia Health is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Assistant Controller to join our accounting team. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this key leadership role will be instrumental in scaling our financial operations, strengthening internal controls (SOX), driving key accounting workflows, and leading finance system transformations. The ideal candidate brings a strong mix of public accounting and public company experience, with expertise in U.S. GAAP, audit readiness, and leading remote teams.
Primary Job Duties:

Financial Operations & Close Management:
-
Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close routines to ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial statements and reconciliations.

Oversee the review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules across business units.

Partner with FP&A on budget-to-actual variance analyses and operational reporting to deliver actionable insights.

Lead financial integration activities for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) to ensure seamless onboarding and accounting alignment.

Direct or assist with specialized initiatives and projects as needed, demonstrating strong project management capabilities and a focus on enhancing operational processes.

Technical Accounting, SEC Reporting & Governance:

Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, including purchase accounting (ASC 805), revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and new accounting standards.

Oversee the preparation of supporting accounting data, reconciliations, schedules, and technical input for SEC filings (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K) prepared by the Financial Reporting team.

Maintain and monitor the companyβs internal controls framework to ensure full SOX 404 compliance.

Serve as a key liaison for external auditors, managing audit schedules, requests, and issue resolution.

Systems, Transformation & Process Improvement:

Serve as the functional finance lead for the upcoming ERP transition, assisting with chart of accounts design, data migration, user acceptance testing (UAT), and workflow design.

Identify and execute automation opportunities across existing financial software to streamline close cycles and operational routines.

Treasury Operations:

Support operational treasury functions, including banking relationships, electronic fund transfers (ACH/wires), account structure administration, and positive pay management.

Team Leadership & Development:

Manage, mentor, and foster accountability across a fully remote accounting team.

Establish clear performance goals to foster continuous development and cross-functional alignment.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelorβs degree in Accounting or Finance.

Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, combining public accounting (Big 4 or large regional preferred) and public company environment experience.

Background in healthcare, physician practice management, or health-tech environments preferred.

Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, SOX 404 compliance, internal controls design, and the management of internal and external audit engagements.

Leadership: Proven track record of hiring, managing, and developing remote accounting professionals.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across executive leadership, IT, HR, and external auditors.

Systems: Experience with Workday Financials and/or Microsoft Dynamics highly preferred.

Specialized Skills: Direct experience with enterprise ERP implementations, income tax provision oversight, or corporate treasury operations highly preferred.
Requirements

The salary range for this role is $150,000.00-$175,000.00 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, and pet insurance, 401K, paid time off, and other wellness programs).

This role is also eligible for an annual bonus targeted at 15%.

The base pay offered will be determined based on relevant factors such as experience, education, and geographic location.
