Role Description

The Sr. Tax Analyst is responsible for specific tasks relating to compliance with federal and state tax rules associated with tax reporting and withholding on distributions from and contributions to retirement plans and products including:

401(a), 401(k), 403(b)
Governmental and non-governmental 457(b) plans
Traditional, Roth, SEP and Simple IRAs

Key responsibilities include:

Monitoring and communicating legislative and regulatory developments impacting tax withholding and reporting
Updating existing Tax reporting and withholding Policies and Procedures
Supporting internal customers with accurate and timely responses to inquiries
Identifying and implementing process improvement ideas to increase efficiency and reduce risk
Providing technical expertise for the development of internal training materials and external communications
Providing accurate distribution forms review and guidance
Providing Tax reporting and withholding guidance for various Products
Supporting both team projects and enterprise-wide projects that have tax components
Actively participating in industry groups such as ACLI
Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
Performing and completing state filings and federal filings
Responding to and maintaining compliance for federal tax notices
Communicating tax policies and guidance effectively

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (e.g., Business, Economics)
5 or more years’ experience with various retirement plans and products
Experience with Forms 1099-R, W-2, 1042-S, 5498, 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC
Ability to read, analyze and interpret tax laws and regulations
Ability to write memos, procedures and other correspondence
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

Requirements

Willingness to make decisions and support reasoning for decisions
Ability to react well under pressure and treat others with respect
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
Volunteers readily and seeks increased responsibilities
