Role Description
The Indirect Tax Specialist prepares indirect tax returns, which are filed in state and local tax jurisdictions throughout the United States for multiple companies. This role maintains compliance with all indirect taxes and reports to the tax manager and SVP Finance & CAO. The normal shift is 40 hours per week, with periodic extended hours as needed.
- Prepare and file sales and use taxes for all states for all entities monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually.
- Prepare and file Other Tobacco Products taxes for all entities monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually.
- Maintain state licenses for Other Tobacco.
- Maintain Federal Excise Tax spreadsheet.
- Prepare and file Federal Excise taxes.
- Stay up to date on changes in sales, use, OTP, and nicotine taxes.
- Work with management to ensure taxes are being collected from customers.
- Work with third-party advisors to ensure compliance in all indirect tax areas.
- Prepare and file property tax returns.
- Address notices from tax authorities for property, sales, and excise taxes.
- Manage any indirect tax audits.
- Coordinate with legal on state registrations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university
- 1-5 years of experience in indirect tax compliance
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical skills with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to streamline and automate processes
Requirements
- Prefer a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience with Oracle cloud
